Romney calls Ryan with congratulations after debate

(CNN) - Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney called his running mate to congratulate him following Thursday's vice presidential debate, a campaign spokesman said.

Romney campaign traveling press secretary Rick Gorka told reporters that Romney called Rep. Paul Ryan approximately 10 minutes after the debate concluded to offer his congratulations.

The Republican presidential candidate also told his running mate to say hello to Ryan's wife, Janna, and family, who joined Ryan at the debate. They should be proud of Ryan's debate performance, Romney said on the call, according to Gorka.

While the candidates debated in Kentucky, Romney was campaigning in Asheville, North Carolina

He watched the hotel from his suite there, and was joined by Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio, the winner of a campaign fundraising contest (with the prize to join Romney for an event such as this), as well as several staffers.

Reporters were permitted into the candidate's room for approximately three minutes while the candidates handled a foreign policy question.

"I think Paul will do great," Romney told the reporters.

President Barack Obama approached reporters upon landing near Washington on Thursday evening to say that he "could not be prouder" of his own running mate, Vice President Joe Biden.

Hmmm, I seem to clearly remember last week's debate between Romney and President Obama when Romney looked a little rabid with that stupid smirk on his face while interrupting President Obama who by the way looked Presidential because he is and kept it classy. NOW it's not okay that Vice President Biden did the same thing as Romney!! Amazing people simply amazing how you can twist things to work in your favor!!!

The Obama campaign keeps acuusing Romney of lying but they have no substance or proof. Biden lied blatenly about not knowing the ambassedor to Libya wanted more security. Also his response to the Iran threat was nothing but BS that any American who has been following the story knows not to be true. It appears that BO and Biden like to take advantage of the uninformed by doing their own news brodcast with their own version of truth. That is if they can't get MSMBC to go quite as far left as they want them to in spinning the truth.

its a shame biden had to emulate a real time fact checker, but im glad someone called ryan on his bs. People are off the rocker because 'mean joe' was being rude, yet dont seem to give a hoot when the other candidate flat out lies. And its not even open for debate because we all know that the next day the fact checkers end up saying the same darn thing!

Good job Paul Ryan, especially when the current vp is acting like an idiot. Man I have never seen a better example of such a fake person (career politician) till I saw Joe Biden last night.

Biden made up for Obama's poor performance and still portrayed himself horribly all at the same time...... Can't wait for Nov 6th to hurry up and get here. Watching Obama & Biden is starting to get annoying! Bring in some REAL change!

Obama didn't look classy, he looked confused and inept. I don't know just how low some people's standards are, but that's not presidential.

Now they've gone to the other extreme, trying to shift focus away from their poor record by being loud and rude towards both Ryan and the moderator (and she was on his side!). Definitely not a good vice-presidential display. They exhibit the very behavior they say is only attributed to the Republicans. God bless American politics and Democratic hypocrisy.

    Matt, You are correct.
It makes one concerned about the emotional stability of our VP if he had to assume the President's position.

Whether or not Obama or Biden were told or not told about the security request they are still both responsible for their administration's behavior. This administration has played the blame game much to long. Time for the irresponsibles to leave office.

Say whatever you want, Biden did nothing but rile the democratic base with his silly antics and unprofessionalism. People; this is our sitting Vice President? He acted like a professional wrestler and was roughly that intelligent. The country started to wake up in 2010 and will continue to do so in 2012.

Right on NOSPAM 2. Now the dems blame the moderator for the poor show by Bidden. I thought she asked some really pointed questions to both sides. She far surpassed Lehrer in her moderating last night's debate. Biden came very close to calling her a liar when she focused on Afganistan and some of the top military there when questioning about the timing of our withdrawal.

last night's debate reminded me of a polite respectful grandson trying to get his senile grandfather to take his meds.

According to some, Obama was too respectful\polite, now they are saying Biden was too disrepectful. Politics!

Surely you are not suggesting that Ryan had to be "corrected" 85 times because of his myths,. Just kidding- of course he interrupted because of the distortions , avoidance and myths. There are too many recordings where the Gov. and Ryan spoke from their heart and I for one will believe what is spoken from the heart.

I am amazed at the arrogance of Joe Biden in last night's debate. He was condescending and disrespectful. I was embarrassed for him !!! A grown man!! Not much class there. If that was my husband, son, or father I would have been VERY embarrassed. Paul Ryan did an excellent job and I was proud of "how much class he has". Obama and Biden are NOT who they portray. Hide and watch!

IIf you think Obama/Biden is smarter than Romney/Ryan then you aren't very smart. But who said actors were smart
Trust America to those who are smarter....not by how well one reads the teleprompter. Trust America to the small businessman who employs most of America. We are trying to be good citizens and take care of our fellow man...more government, regulation, and tax is not the answer.

Notice how smug narcissists and sociopaths are as they lie, cheat, and steal. Romney is a lizard who runs from lie to lie and position to position. Ryan is the true artful dodger and Romney is unable to present any coherent statements on kicking the wealthy off their subsidies or whether he is going to go after the middle class mortgage and education exemptions. How many hypocrites can fit in one phone booth. The Republican party has two running for the top offices in the United States. The Republican Party makes Red and Lernen, the gospel on propaganda by Goebbels pale in comparison to their sheer ability to repeat Big lies.

No one seemed to care that mitt kept interrupting Obama, or that mitt changed his stance on everything that he had previously built his campaign on. So Biden fought back and called ryan out when he was less then honest. Why shouldn't Biden stop ryan in a rant to call him on the facts?

I can't understand the hypocrisy of some people. When Romney in his debate with Obama was belligerent, constantly interrupting the president and the moderator, while he was lying profusely it was a stellar performance. Then Biden did almost the same thing without the lies and he was rude? Give me a break.

If anyone was lying it was Biden when he said that he voted against the bush wars but he did. He also stated that their tax threshold would be at 100,000,000 when in fact it's at 250,000. He lied on the whole Libya questions. He lied about the HHS mandate.
