Romney calls Ryan with congratulations after debate

(CNN) - Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney called his running mate to congratulate him following Thursday's vice presidential debate, a campaign spokesman said.

Romney campaign traveling press secretary Rick Gorka told reporters that Romney called Rep. Paul Ryan approximately 10 minutes after the debate concluded to offer his congratulations.

The Republican presidential candidate also told his running mate to say hello to Ryan's wife, Janna, and family, who joined Ryan at the debate. They should be proud of Ryan's debate performance, Romney said on the call, according to Gorka.

While the candidates debated in Kentucky, Romney was campaigning in Asheville, North Carolina

He watched the hotel from his suite there, and was joined by Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio, the winner of a campaign fundraising contest (with the prize to join Romney for an event such as this), as well as several staffers.

Reporters were permitted into the candidate's room for approximately three minutes while the candidates handled a foreign policy question.

"I think Paul will do great," Romney told the reporters.

President Barack Obama approached reporters upon landing near Washington on Thursday evening to say that he "could not be prouder" of his own running mate, Vice President Joe Biden.

Romney/Ryan without any solutions...watching the debate from a suite when alot of americans don't have shelter or food. Let's talk about helping all Americans instead of monitoring world affairs. All Americans can't afford to send the child to school- much less give them a solid meal each night because folks like Romney and Ryan are worried about saving the wealthy.

Ryan got his rear handed to him, and the majority of polling shows it. The sooner conservatives at CNN acknowledge this, the better.

Biden won this debate. He was the aggressor and despite coming off a bit annoying, its hard not to fault him when your opponent keeps beating around the bush instead of answering direct questions.
Still, Ill give Ryan credit, he held his own through most of the debate, but did little to attack the administration effectively. I can see him as a presidential candidate himself in 2020 or 2024, but I dont think he is quite there yet. He certainly has time and tools on his side.

Biden sounded like an angry old man who is not interested in a real debate. He did his usual liberal spin and relied on emotion and interupted Ryan repeatable. That's what what you do when you can't run on your dismal record.
