(CNN) - The Obama campaign plans to have its election night event at McCormick Place in Chicago barring a last minute change, a campaign source confirmed to CNN on Wednesday.
Billed as the largest convention center in the country, the venue consists of four buildings with a combined total of 2.6 million square feet of exhibit space.

While it's a large venue, the indoor facility would likely not be able to hold as many people as Grant Park, the outdoor site of Obama's election night event in 2008.
The website for McCormick Place says it can seat up to 18,000 people, whereas Grant Park held 240,000 people four years ago.
With Election Day on November 6, holding the event inside could also be an advantage in the case of inclement weather.
The president's campaign headquarters are located in Chicago.

Didn't Mitt Phony say the same things he said in the first debate. He is starting to run out of lines. Obama wiped the floor with him last night. The Commander in Chief was in command!
Hopefully Obama will concede early.
I want to vote for obama. And I don't want for mitt romeny
I'm sure CNN will gladly cover this event and possibly even help Obama pay for it.
It will be "Sweet Home Chicago" as America celebrates the President's re-election!
Eighteen thousand people in 2012 versus 240,000 people. Now if that doesn't foretell a defeat I don't know what does. Oops, 4 years of nothing thank you very much.
What a total waste of convention space
Chicago is a virtual war zone. Good luck on this one. But it'll be a huge waste of money though. Not many people show up to the losers celebration.
Go obama but you have to win first in order to secure a victory
Where is Mr . Romney going to be ?
wisdom is the Teacher, knowledge is the Student,Understanding is a road map on a pathway too common sense.Mr President Obama keep your head up.you are doing a great job.
Who will show up? The millions on food stamps, the millions who are unemployed and those living in poverty?
is that so everyone can hear him congratuate romney on his landslide victory
