Checking the candidates' facts on foreign policy and national security

(CNN) - Monday's debate focuses on foreign policy and national security. The debate commission announced that the main topics will be: Afghanistan and Pakistan, Israel and Iran, "The Changing Middle East and the New Face of Terrorism," and "The Rise of China and Tomorrow's World.

Ahead of the debate, here's a look at some campaign claims about foreign policy that we've looked at:

I don't understand this article. Why in the world I have to compare President Obama's foreign policy experience against Romney? What did Willard Romney do to even compare to President Obama? This is a joke right?

  2. Morning1Su,

I am so afraid Mitt Romney will be out spoken and force the US into another war. Bush had entered us into two unfunded wars and now we are behind in infrastructure and education. Mitt Romney talks tough but be didn't join the military and his five sons did not join. My son came back half blinded and has six children to support. We have to join with our allies to fight the wars. Afaganstan do not like us but like our money to support them. Mitt Romney is a very shady character and cannot be trusted. His ways are from the old school, but what is worse he has no clue about fightig the enemy unless he send others to do his dirty work like he does in business.

Electronic voting machines are a GOP conflict of interest

Tagg Romney, the son of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, has purchased electronic voting machines that will be used in the 2012 elections in Ohio, Texas, Oklahoma, Washington and Colorado.

Hypocrisy: If the President's Family Purchased Voter Machines, the Uproar Would be Deafening

candidate for the presidency of the United States, and his brother, wife and son, have a straight-line financial interest in the voting machines that could decide this fall's election. These machines cannot be monitored by the public. But they will help decide who "owns" the White House."
If Romney wins, it because there more votes then people.

Nice picture of the president CNN.

Mr. President again, I'll be praying for you because I know you want to represent ALL Americans and not just the ones who support you.

Let's hope we don't see any more bad fact checking by moderators, while the debate is going on.

You lose truth after the first assertion. Obama generally spoke about acts of terror, and most certainly did not refer to Libya as directly one.

Any claim otherwise is a blatant or ignorant lie by liberals.

Why bother checking facts? In today's dumb down society facts are subjective. If you don't like reality ,just make up your own facts or scream conspiracy. As a last resort ,you can choose to believe what propaganda prospitutes at the superPAC's manufacter as truth to serve their billionaire masters. The biggest letdwon of this campaign is that neither candidate has made it part of his proposed agenda to introduce legislation to reverse Citizens United.

It would seem unwise and imprudent, at this time of global tensions ,for the United States to shift it's present policy. Changes in policy and personnel tend to invite challenges from foreign powers. All that one has to do is reflect for one moment on the Cuban missile crisis back in 1962 or more recently 9/11 2001 attack. Human nature is the one single constant that never seems to change. The new administration would undoubtedly be challenged almost immediately.Domestic resurgence is going to take time . Our infrastructure was not destroyed in a day, and it will take time to rebuild it. At this point in time, it is simply my opinion, to stay the course .

Chavez, Castro, Putin: Four more years!

Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez, right, and Russia’s Prime Minister Vladimir Putin find time for a chat during a welcoming ceremony at Miraflores Presidential Palace in Caracas, April 2, 2010. Photo Credit:AP
The latest [dictator] to publicly announce his support for the commander-in-chief’s reelection bid was Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez, who this week assured he’d vote for Obama if he were from the United States. The America-bashing strongman made the announcement on state-owned television, saying “Obama is a good guy” and that if Obama was from Caracas, he’d surely return the favor by voting for Chavez.

There are times to ask questions and times to shut up. On matters of national security like Benghazi, it's time to shut up. The only people responsible for those American deaths are the people who attacked them, not anyone in our government, not a democrat or a republican. It goes beyond party lines which is hard for me to even say because I'm a devout liberal. However any bickering caused in the presidential election over this allows those murders to influence our election. The press has gone way over the line with this 'people have a right to know and know now' attitude. So have the Republicans, and it risks additional lives in Libya as we speak. Patience is a virtue that is learned, and allows all the facts of an investigation to be discovered. If everything was for public consumption, why do they seal files as classified for decades after a sitting president is out of office?

Facts? Facts? It obviously does not matter about facts if you are for Mitt Romney as he never says any facts.......only says what you want to hear depending on the audience and denies to your face what he has said even a week ago that is on videotape. So the people that are voting for Romney..........are they teaching their children that it is ok to lie? Boy, I would not want any of you on a jury if there would be clear evidence of a murder. Wake up middle class and vote for Obama.................we are and we are registered Republicans, but we check the facts and Romney's records of how he did business, and his record as governor of Massachusetts and therefore just cannot vote for Romney.

Foreign policy is important but I can not believe why their is not outrage that Romney will not release his tax returns and continue to question the outsourcing of his money. he want to be President of the United States. He is asking to work for us and he thinks he is entitled to the job.

Why is the media giving him this pass if the shoe was on the other foot like President Obama everybody would be raising hell. If he gets the job the 47% is going to be in trouble he does not care about the 100% and everywhere he goes Ann is standing right there with him she will be running the country.

"If you are prepared to irrationally believe in someone or an organization or a concept, you are going to become a helpless victim of deception. You will be fooled". Romney/Ryan use this tool exceptionally well.

America, can't get enough of endless wars? Then vote for Romney. He's ready to start WW3 just for you. Hope you have plenty of sons and daughters to send, 'cause Romney isn't sending any of his.

Gov. Romney is not the man for "peace" (to greedy, to impatient, too much of a bully, to many bad Bush advisers!). He is stuck in the GOP “shoot first and ask questions later (perhaps)”... mode. The GOP screams now about deficits that they have run up (with “preemptive wars”, etc. etc.) and then DEMAND the President make them disappear – NOW!

This game does not only squander desperately needed resources (while a few get RICH and then stash the money offshore), it also erodes all values and morals! The bias and plain thoughtless insults Romney and the GOP have thrown out already make the world nerves! Real Leadership does not consist of threats; it works best with providing a good and decent example!

President Obama has been able to restore a lot of good will and respect again toward the US that was lost during the GOP administration. While absolutely devoted to AMERICAN security and interests, he is also willing to work respectful with others for long term AMERICAN interests. That is how the US leadership should behave!

Do yourself and us a big favor – vote strait “D”!
