Romney's son apologizes to Obama for 'swing' remark

(CNN) – Tagg Romney, Mitt Romney's oldest son, apologized to President Barack Obama Monday for saying he wanted to "take a swing" at him during contentious presidential debates.

Obama and Tagg Romney were seen speaking on the stage after Monday's final presidential debate, held at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida. Two Obama aides said the conversation included an apology for the remark, made last week during a radio interview.

Asked in that interview what it's like "to hear the President of the United States call your dad a liar," Tagg Romney joked about his fantasy response.

"Jump out of your seat and you want to rush down to the debate stage and take a swing at him," he said. "But you know you can't do that because, well, first because there's a lot of Secret Service between you and him, but also because that's the nature of the process. You know they're going to try to do anything they can do to make my dad into something he's not."

"We signed up for it, we've got to kind of sit there and take our punches, and send them the other way," he continued.

One of Tagg Romney's brothers, Josh, downplayed the comments in an interview on ABC's "The View."

"That brother has slugged me a couple of times," Josh Romney said. "I'm sure President Obama has nothing to worry about."

Asked about the original comments on Thursday, Romney campaign spokeswoman Amanda Henneberg said Tagg Romney was "joking about how frustrating this process can be for family."

CNN's Rachel Streitfeld contributed to this report.

It is frustrating when a slick-talking salesman tries to gloss over his failures and pathetic four-year record.

Romney has himself done a good job of making himself out to be something he is not.

Is it really possible for mitt to get caught in so many lies and still have 100% blind support. I know it is his son, but open your eyes.

And yet President Obama can continue to insult Governor Romney with un-presidential taunts of Romneysia and belittling remarks about the fact that there are aircraft carriers that planes actually land on.... the media lets him get away with it but the voters are WATCHING.... they may take a swing at Obama at the polls

A, I respect the kid for answering the question honestly. What son wouldn't feel that way?

B, I respect the kid for apologizing to the President of our country. This is both a sign of his respect for the position, our country and that manner in which he was raised.

Like Romney or not, both actions were honest and respectful in there own way. I applause him and wish more of our elected officials from both parties in DC had the decency the Romney boy showed as a young man.

That's just typical behavior for many of the right wing nutters. Websites I've seen where many of them post has them shooting at the the President once he's re-elected so I suppose Tagg is less a nutjob than some. It just goes to show the direction the GOP is heading. If they had it their way, democratic process would be suspended.

I thought that's what was happening when I saw one of Mittens' sons speak to President Obama. Our president, gracious and classy as always, greeted Tagg's words with respect. Too bad Mittens and his brood can't be as mature as our president ...

    Obama/Biden 2012 = The only sane choice

All that translate to is, he doesn't respect his own father.meaning if his father says something he disagree with, he will just swing at him.
Is this the kind of family we want in the white house?

i feel like poeple don't say things they don't mean. If he could i think TaGG would take a swing at obama, just because he knows deep down inside that his dad is a liar. And im hoping and praying that our poeple see right thru him and see that he is no good for us.

Don't worry, Tag. A lot of us Americans feel that way. Obama has frustrated with his lack of vision, manipulation, lies, apologies, and failed policies!! And angered us with his narcissistic, snarky, petulant ranting!! Your dad is Presidential. Obama is pathetic.
