Romney's son apologizes to Obama for 'swing' remark

(CNN) – Tagg Romney, Mitt Romney's oldest son, apologized to President Barack Obama Monday for saying he wanted to "take a swing" at him during contentious presidential debates.

Obama and Tagg Romney were seen speaking on the stage after Monday's final presidential debate, held at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida. Two Obama aides said the conversation included an apology for the remark, made last week during a radio interview.

Asked in that interview what it's like "to hear the President of the United States call your dad a liar," Tagg Romney joked about his fantasy response.

"Jump out of your seat and you want to rush down to the debate stage and take a swing at him," he said. "But you know you can't do that because, well, first because there's a lot of Secret Service between you and him, but also because that's the nature of the process. You know they're going to try to do anything they can do to make my dad into something he's not."

"We signed up for it, we've got to kind of sit there and take our punches, and send them the other way," he continued.

One of Tagg Romney's brothers, Josh, downplayed the comments in an interview on ABC's "The View."

"That brother has slugged me a couple of times," Josh Romney said. "I'm sure President Obama has nothing to worry about."

Asked about the original comments on Thursday, Romney campaign spokeswoman Amanda Henneberg said Tagg Romney was "joking about how frustrating this process can be for family."

CNN's Rachel Streitfeld contributed to this report.

Why blame the son? He was probably just repeating what he heard dad saying at the dinner table.

Sometimes it is best to go out side, and symbolically weed out a bit of hate..

II am appaulled at young Mr. Romey's comment that he wanting to take a "swing" at the President. This is not cute. If a less privileged person had made this remark against a standing US President. he would have been immediately arrested and prosecuted. I resent the class discrimination. I am outraged that there are no other comments similar to mine.

What do you expect if someone is calling your dad a liar on national tv. Obama and Biden both are the ones that have lied numerous times to the people of this great nation. Look at the facts, our country is in a deeper hole than what we were in four years ago. Obama wants to keep everyone on welfare. Don't take Obama,s failures out on the rich. At least the rich had enough intelligence and will power to get off their ass and make some thing of their selves. At least their not freeloaders!

Perhaps the son should be running! Apology? An act of the bigger man. His father should learn........

    Dear Tagg,
I know what it feels like when somebody hints that your daddy's been all over the map. But, if you cannot stand that little heat, what then, are you doing in the kitchen?

Tagg dont your parent told you not to include your self in a elderly discussion, cuz you are just a kid, but if you really wat to swing, swing at the 47percent first before you can swing at my comander in chief. Do you get it kid. "Amy Strong"

A defensive comment of his father that had a "happy ending." Now bring on the anti Obama/anti Romney comments

I do not feel he needed to apologize. From the tone of the interview you could tell he wasn't serious. Besides that I'm sure the way the candidates bash each other this wasn't the first time something of this nature was said.

Just like his father. He cannot figure out what to say so says something really stupid. Can we all say, "No to Romney and NO to any other Republican."

This just points out how hot-tempered and violent the Romneys are. They have anger management issues. If this is how they get during a debate, imagine how a Romney would deal with an insult from a foreign leader. Scary.

The truth hurts, dunnit, Tagg? Your Dad WAS lying, and the President called him out on it. Why would you blame the President for that when it was YOUR DAD who was lying like a rug in front of the whole nation?
