Romney: All in for the family

Reno, Nevada (CNN) - Mitt Romney made an appeal to struggling families at his second Nevada rally in as many days, telling voters he understood their troubles and could help.

The candidate's retooled stump speech, featuring a series of empathetic stories about down-on-their-luck Americans – a senior on Medicare, a daughter working to pay off her college loans, a middle-aged homeowner whose property lost value - came as the GOP presidential nominee sought to capitalize on a surge in the polls this month that has fueled new optimism about his election effort.

"This election [is] about your family and families across this country, and the choice we make will have an enormous impact on your family,"

Romney told an audience of roughly 2,500 people Wednesday in Reno – a smaller audience than the candidate had drawn at several joint rallies with his running mate Paul Ryan over the past week. "And I understand what it's going to take to get this country strong again and to provide the answers that your families need."

Romney's stop in Nevada underlined his renewed confidence following a series of debates with the president this month.

"We've had four debates and he hasn't been able to describe what his plan is to get this economy going," Romney said at a Reno events center across the state from where he spoke a day earlier. "You can boil what he's saying down to four simple words, and that is: 'more of the same.'"

President Obama enjoys support from Latinos and unions in Nevada, and has generally edged ahead of Romney in polls. But with two stops in two days and polls that show the race here is tightening, the Romney campaign is forcing Obama to defend a state he easily won in 2008.

The president will rally supporters in Las Vegas Wednesday night.

Hours in advance of that visit, Romney tied Obama to the housing crisis that has hit Nevada particularly hard.

"If he's re-elected I'm convinced you're going to see the values of your homes continue to bump along in the basement," Romney told supporters.

Romney has no concept of what a financially struggling family goes through. He was born rich and then got richer on the backs of workers he fired. He is a Mormon and they have no scruples.

Obama and his chicago cronies have had 3 1/2 years to loot the country. 10 billion dollars of our tax dollars went to "green" companies that eventually went bankrupt. He lied about libya because he want the muslims to win or he knew he was lying about the strength of radical muslims. His only weapon is to blame bush and hatefully attack Romney. What a small little boy.

@Four and The Door – Where's your proof?
Where's your proof? Which rock in CA have you been under for the last 12 months, emerging to type the right wing garbage you keep spouting? "It's a sad day in America when a known, proven, undeniable, uneqivocal, blatant, unashamed, LIAR gets 40+ percent of the vote in a presidental election." It's a WELL-KNOWN Fact.. heck, even Anne is asking "will the REAL Mitt the Twit please stand up!"

At this point, I wouldn't believe romney if he told me the sky is blue. he's dripping with cynicism and disdain for working class Americans – he thinks we're stupid. Prove him wrong on election day...prove you're smart enough to see through his tripe. vote obama.

We are indeed fortunate to have a humanitarian with real successful diverse career experiences to elect to the nation's highest office. We sorely need someone with a clue in the Oval Office.

Why is it that Romney and Ryan are so quick to say they would send our sons and daughters to war but, they have never had a family member serve in the military. If they love this country so much how about stepping up and serve like the rest of us. Oh I forgot they are to busy working to get daddy elected. What a joke.

I hope if Romney wins he would be a moderate. If he starts another needless war to help his rich friends then the blood is on the hands of every voter that votes for him.

...This is the same guy who said a few months ago that he does not care for 47% of the americans because he does not think that they will support him in the election.
Hardly. What he said was that 47% of the people have their minds made up to vote Democratic regardless of what a Republican brings ( and I am sure you are in that group ), so he is not going to worry about doing things to get their votes. But you tell it like you wish. This is America and at least for now free speech is still allowed.

It truly astounds me that people believe bigger government is the answer to our nation's problems. Obama has helped bankrupt our children's future and people believe his economic policies are going to help our nation recover? We need a businessman at the helm to right the economy. I'm not by any means a huge fan of either candidate, however, Obama has shown me nothing that suggests this country is fiscally headed in the right direction. Rather, I see us floundering and becoming more dependent on one another until we weigh ourselves down to complete mediocrity. Please make an informed choice this election and do not listen to the spin on either side. Vote for the person you honestly think will turn our economy around. The consequences of making the wrong decision will only weaken out nation further and bankruptcy could be only a generation or two away. And I am not preaching fear, please look at the numbers and figure who has the best shot of repairing and reviving our economy.

  13. Don't Electey Romney

As a Republican from Massachusetts I urge fellow Republicans not to vote for Romney. The Democrats in Massachusetts played Romnyt like a fiddle. Romney vetoed over 700 bills in Massachusetts and I don't belive any of his vetoes were sustained. Romney didn't want health care but Ted Kennedy put on enough pressure on and Romney crumbled under the Democratic on slaught. I am afraid that Romney will do so bad that we wouldn't have a chance in 2016. Let Obama keep the job struggle for four more years and then get someone like Christie, Portman or Daniels the nod in 2016. They would kick the Democrats butts. If you are going to support a Republican help us in Massachusetts get Scott Brown re- elected. Even Brown stays away from romnet knowing how toxic his results were in Massachusetts. Brown never asked for an endorsement. I have said my peace. Thank you.

The only "Family" Obama looks out for is his own and those of his cohorts. Obama's failed economic polocies have caused the Middle Class to lose 10% on their average wage so far during his term, and he has dramatically increased the number of Americans on food stamps. Couple this with the fact that Obama and Biden lied to the public about the Libya attack; they were breifed within 24 hours that is was an Al Qeada affiliate group who attacked the consulate, yet he "pretended" that a Video caused this attack. Fox news now has the email proof from the White House.
There's no room in the 2013 White House for a proven liar. With this new evidence; it's all over but the crying for team Obama.

CNN broadcasts Mittens statement without correcting it when they have an article on the front page covering the fact that home sales just hit a 2 year high...oh wait...they pulled that down....gee, I wonder why.

He would not care for you because you are among 47% of population, you will go down further, so before you vote for him keep that in mind; and then this country will go back in an old mess that Obama is cleaning since he took office; we just cannot afford to go back there, but moving forward.

Anyone still using words like soldiers and binders (full of women??) and refering to the number of ships we had in 1916 isn't ready to be President of anything! Go Obama!

Dear Romney, i want my vote to go to the following President :A President that guaranties peace and security, stable long term economy growth. As a small business owner in the manufacture industry i can certainly say that our Government does nothing to help small business grow. It's a shame that these politicians can't see the big picture like Chinese can.

I can't believe that so many people think that Romney cares about people. Romney is a major phony and just wants to be President to satisfy his ego.

Romney understands the problems of seniors on medicare, college graduates struggling to pay student loans, and families who are losing their homes? Yeah, right. This greedy narcissist has never been sick without medical insurance, never faced foreclosure, and once told students to pay for college by borrowing from their parents. He hasn't got a clue about the harsh realities that the majority of us face.
