Romney's closing argument a picture of 'day one'

(CNN) – Mitt Romney's final message will focus on tasks he hopes to take on his first day in office if elected president, according to an outline of the themes that was provided by a senior Romney adviser.

"Throughout this campaign, Governor Romney talked about his 'Day One, Job One' approach to fixing the American economy. Now, as we close out the final days of this campaign, Governor Romney will return to this theme and use each day to talk about specific steps in his plan that will bring about 'real change on day one' in a Romney presidency," the plan reads, leading into bullet points on specific issues Romney will hit in the eight days before November 6.

- Follow the Ticker on Twitter: @PoliticalTicker

- Check out the CNN Electoral Map and Calculator and game out your own strategy for November.

All of the points relate to the economy, which has been Romney's theme since the beginning of his candidacy. Many of the points hark back to the GOP nominee's five point economic plan, which he unveiled at the beginning of August and has been using in nearly every speech since.

"The governor's message in these final days will be an optimistic one, focused on building a brighter future and focused on the big issues that Americans want their president to confront and develop solutions for," the note from the senior Romney adviser read.

The points Romney will hit are:

-Make the case for fundamental tax reform designed to help boost the middle-class and American competitiveness in the global marketplace.

-Talk about his plan to put the country back on track towards a balanced budget.

-Once again lay out his plan to reverse President Obama's cuts to our nation's military through sequestration.

-Describe his plan to expand trade and increase U.S. exports and also level the playing field with China by declaring them a currency manipulator.

-Explain his plan to achieve energy independence for North America.

-Focus attention on a comprehensive effort to fix our nation's schools and raise performance levels.

-Talk about his effort to halt the layers of new regulations, starting with Obamacare, introduced by President Obama that have burdened America's job creators.

Speaking on CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday, senior Obama adviser David Axelrod said the president's closing message was focused on telling voters why he needs four more years in the Oval Office.

"The president's closing message is exactly what I said before, which is we've made some progress," Axelrod told chief political correspondent Candy Crowley. "We have to build on that progress, and we have to move forward in a way that builds an economy that works for the middle class. What we can't do is go back to the failed policies of the past."

CNN's Jim Acosta contributed to this report.

Apparently you consider every American who works for a living "rich" because this is who gets a 20% tax cut when Mitt Romney is elected. Every working American. And then actually, the higher income earners get hit much harder by deduction eliminations and limits than middle income earners.

Hate to tell you this but Romney's math doesn't add up...He "six studies" that says it does, aren't studies. They are blogs and editorials, 2 written by folks in his campainge. I know this is tough for you to hear, but facts matter. You shouldn't be able to just say whatever you need to say to get elected...provide a plan with detail, not a list of goals.

This conversation about abortion and gay marraige is growing tired. These are not issues that either candidate will focus on in the next term. They are also not the most important issues for "us" as a country to deal with at this point in time.

Obama has failed.. Period.. We need a new President / CEO to get us going again. Not a blind agenda pusher who works on the wrong issues. Obama will continue to push legislation that kills job growth. Obamacare is a timebomb for our future. It will hinder growth for any company that employs over 50 people and half this country is still talking about abortion...

He's as phony as a three dollar bill. Heres the test, load up you pet in a crate, strap it to the roof of your car, then drive 200 miles down the freeway and back. If your morals ( or lack there of ) will allow you to do this, then by all means vote for romney. Then please give your pet to someone that won't treat it like luggage.

I vote to go to hell before I live one day under a Romney Presidency !

Romney will force a woman to have a child after she has been raped.
Romney said he will get rid of Planned Parent hood . Ryan does not believe in birth control and sign a bill to redefine rape. So women will no longer control their bodies, Republicans gray old men will.

Romeny will get rid of Obama Care. So If you have a pre existing condition you will longer get insurance. Of course regualar check ups and mammograms will be again billable by the insurance companies

Romney and Ryan do not think women should get paid the same amount as a man doing the same job so that law will be gone

Romney wants to eliminate the mortgage interest credit so people will not buy homes of course this means the real estae market will be worst.

Romney said he will get rid of Public Television so the kid that they force you to have when you were raped will not have Big Bird or Sesame street.

Romney stated he was not interested in teachers or class size so public education will be worst

Romney stated he will get rid of the PELL grant so your kid unless you are rich will not go to college

Romney said he will deregulate banks again so expected a depression, bad loans, bad fees and being totally rip off by the greedy.

Romney said he will give you a voucher for medicare so seniors will no longer have insurance

Romnney said he did not care about the 47% they are not responsible for themselves based on the above attack on his plans to attack women and the middle class this most be true .

I want have to vote to be in hell I will be in hell under a Romney Presidency

Why is Romney considered to better for the economy. He did not help Massachusetts economy as governor. America was not founded on a principle of economics. Social issues are more important. If you thought Bush was bad, Romney will be a diaster. Voters are not voting for him as much as voting against the black guy. And if he wins, let's get it on.

Mitt did not dodge the personal tax issue. You are too dumb to understand that he pays Capital Gains tax not income tax. Understand that he already paid taxes on the money that he earned now the GOV taxes the investment income on that money and will tax it again when he dies. How many times do you think the GOV should tax us.

You want to talk about credibility? Take a look at Obama.. I'd love to see his college transcripts that he had sealed....

    truth hurts-

Are you now claiming Gays have bought Obama?! That's rich. Mr. Edelson is plowing how many of millios of dollars to ensure Mr. Romney's win?

Meanwhile, in your mind ONE policy shift on the part of Mr. Obama equates the dozens of policy shiftsa and lies of Romney?

Remember at the last shellacking debate Romney actually changed every single foreign policy position he held, and adopted the President's!

Your candidate is a semi-delusional person who has no grasp on reality (or perhaps has no morals and just lies about everything)!

rs - So- can you tell us what happened to American Motors if Mr. Romney's father was so good at his job?
Sure, right after you tell me the relevance of this in 2012! Got any other BS smoke and mirror items you want addressed too? Might as well get them all out of the way at one time.

BTW Obama's father was a drunked socialist/marxist that abandoned his family. Do you seriously want to compare candidates fathers?!

    October 29, 2012 01:48 pm at 1:48 pm |

Smoke and mirrors on day 1. Lets's take the sequestration for example. There is absolutely NOTHING Romney can do about sequestration. NOTHING. If he were to be elected, his presidency would not start until 1/20/13, sequestration would kick in 1/1/13. So what could he do NOTHING.

12 million jobs and deficit reduction are the goals. The plan? Economic recovery driven by tax reform and private sector growth. This is a much better plan for America's future than tax & spend.

The problem with Romney's alleged China stance is that the hats, and t-shirts that he gives out for his campaign are made in China, now on the other hand Obama's are made in ths good ole USA. By UNION workers. And yes this is a fact. So I know who's going to be tough on China, and who's got the American workers back. And it sure the hell ain't flip flopping Romney. He won't even buy American items to give out for his campaign run of being the American president.

  21. Where are your SPECIFICS Romney?

    @just sayin

    >Gov. Romney is NOT presidential material

but an inexperienced community orgranizer was in 2008? too funny.
That Fox News sound bite about the President's role as a community organizer says a lot about those of you who are critical. A person with a Harvard Law Degree, especially a minority in a time of affirmative action, who chooses a low-paying job serving the community is in fact exceptional. That person would learn the needs and goals of the working folks. Based on the President's stellar performance, it appears that, and serving in the Senate, was good background for a President.

Romney on the other hand was a draft dodger from 1966-1969 – when he got a high lottery number. He then took his daddy's money and worked a vulture capitalism company designed to plunder good companies, strip them of assets, cash out, and take the profits and run. He served as Governor in a state where he's now polling around 20%. They know he has no ability to create jobs – at least not in the United States. They also know he's a pathological liar.

Hasn't Mitt been on both sides of all issues, hasn't his republican counterparts said Mitt will say anything to be president of the USA? I mean I know President Obama still has a lot of work to do and I don't see how can anyone think that we should be much far ahead considering the position we were in when he took office. We are growing and doing much better than several countries, teachers have kept their jobs, police have kept their jobs, auto industry is doing really well, housing market is progressing and all economist say the USA will continue to grow. I do like Mitts plan about expanding trade in latin America but we need a president that's very clear and does not send mixed messages period, who does not classify 47% of americans claiming to think we have entitlements, who doesn't say "the poor will be the poor", "let Detroit go bankrupt". We need a president that's in it for ALL americans!
