Romney's closing argument a picture of 'day one'

(CNN) – Mitt Romney's final message will focus on tasks he hopes to take on his first day in office if elected president, according to an outline of the themes that was provided by a senior Romney adviser.

"Throughout this campaign, Governor Romney talked about his 'Day One, Job One' approach to fixing the American economy. Now, as we close out the final days of this campaign, Governor Romney will return to this theme and use each day to talk about specific steps in his plan that will bring about 'real change on day one' in a Romney presidency," the plan reads, leading into bullet points on specific issues Romney will hit in the eight days before November 6.

- Follow the Ticker on Twitter: @PoliticalTicker

- Check out the CNN Electoral Map and Calculator and game out your own strategy for November.

All of the points relate to the economy, which has been Romney's theme since the beginning of his candidacy. Many of the points hark back to the GOP nominee's five point economic plan, which he unveiled at the beginning of August and has been using in nearly every speech since.

"The governor's message in these final days will be an optimistic one, focused on building a brighter future and focused on the big issues that Americans want their president to confront and develop solutions for," the note from the senior Romney adviser read.

The points Romney will hit are:

-Make the case for fundamental tax reform designed to help boost the middle-class and American competitiveness in the global marketplace.

-Talk about his plan to put the country back on track towards a balanced budget.

-Once again lay out his plan to reverse President Obama's cuts to our nation's military through sequestration.

-Describe his plan to expand trade and increase U.S. exports and also level the playing field with China by declaring them a currency manipulator.

-Explain his plan to achieve energy independence for North America.

-Focus attention on a comprehensive effort to fix our nation's schools and raise performance levels.

-Talk about his effort to halt the layers of new regulations, starting with Obamacare, introduced by President Obama that have burdened America's job creators.

Speaking on CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday, senior Obama adviser David Axelrod said the president's closing message was focused on telling voters why he needs four more years in the Oval Office.

"The president's closing message is exactly what I said before, which is we've made some progress," Axelrod told chief political correspondent Candy Crowley. "We have to build on that progress, and we have to move forward in a way that builds an economy that works for the middle class. What we can't do is go back to the failed policies of the past."

CNN's Jim Acosta contributed to this report.

Ann Romney, "My only concern for Mitt being POTUS is his MENTAL HEALTH." Fabulous endorsement from the person who knows him best!

Mitt might actually be OK but we'll never know. Do we get the Neocon severely conservative guy of the primaries or the now moderate Mitt? He may actually have core principles but we don't know. This is going to be a real problem for the GOP since they have to run to the right to get nominated and then make a sharp turn left to get back to center to run in the election. Romney's problem is that the GOP has been kidnapped by the tea baggers. A crushing loss for Romney would actually be good for the GOP. Might start a little house cleaning and get back to something more similar to Reagan (thought I'd never say that) or maybe even Rockefeller neither of whom could not get nominated today.

America and Barak are hated world wide and that is the Truth, to say anything different is like holding your head under the sand. No one outside America cares for Barak and what is to become of him after 06Nov.
    Romney/Ryan – 2012. Easy.

Thats about as dumb as they come ! Your Wrong !

I have friends from all over the world . Obama is more respected outside his own country then he is in his own .

Thats sad , further more , my friends ask me why we would want another GW Bush . I don't know what to tell them , is it a Racism thing, is it that America has short turn memory , is iall we care about , who can get the golden car elevator ?

All I know is when President Obama travels around the world , people don't burn cars , flags , and riot a as they did when GW Bush was in office.

And when I travel abroad Ive been treated more kindly since Obama was elected.

Edfromnebraska: 5 point plan? A plan requires more than the end goal. It actually requires ideas. Romney states what he believes needs to happen, but refuses to say how he actually intends to get there (until he is elected of course). He is a destination with no map.

@didi – You just don't get it. Who cares about Mitt's millions. It's how he made it that is so disgusting. How many people lost their livelihood while he raked in millions as a result? He said he was a job creator but he has no record or creating only destroying jobs. Why is it that his birth state and his resident states will not be giving him the votes in the electoral college? They know something that you obviously don't.

I wonder why they dont burn cars and riot.. it cant be because they know Obama is weakening America's global power... or could it?? When he cam into office we had over 5000 nukes now we have nearly 1500 he want us to have 0-300 if that alone isn't a symbol of weakness.. i dont know what is

Really luke,AZ. Hate to see what you thought of Obama in 2008 then since he had no experience what so ever to be president. The last four years have proven that.
    @Four and The Door
@just sayin , Why don't you ask Osama bin Laden what he thinks.

What Bin Laden thinks is not important. Ask Seal Team Six. They are not Obama's biggest fans. Imagine that.

@WVGuy and @Four and The Door, Both of you obviously think that Gov Romney has some degree of leadership skill. Gov. Romney is NOT presidential material, he is though an adequate manager. President Obama has proven over the last 4 years to be an outstanding leader, saving the U.S. from an imminent depression, rescuing GM , passing the Affordable Healthcare Act and giving the order to take out Osama bin Laden. That's what leaders do. President Obama deserves 4 more years to finish what he has started.

  12. Blah blah the wheel's off your trailer

During the republican primaries, Newt Gingrich referred to President as the food stamp President and since then republicans have accused President Obama of creating a welfare state. Then they've accused the President of inflating the national deficit. But first and foremost, when GWB took office in 2000, the deficit was 5.2 trillion dollars. When he left office, the deficit was 10.6 trillion dollars. However, note that the 5.2 trillion dollar war funding for the Iraqi and Afghan wars were not tabulated and factored in the equation. However, when you factor in that equation, GWB and the GOP squandered a surplus and spent over 10 trillion dollars in 8 years and not of that spending benefited Americans.

When President Obama took office, he inherited the worst economic crisis in modern history and the 2009 Economic Recover Act of stimulus package was passed out of NECESSITY to stabilize and grow the economy and put Americans back to work. Since President Obama took office, some 8 million Americans have lost their jobs. So with that being said, I have a big QUESTION I'd like to ask republicans/conservatives...Of the 14 million Americans who have lost their jobs to the Great Recession, HOW many of these unemployed Americans do you believe are republicans or conservatives??? One? Two? Twenty? one hundred? Two hundred? NO, of the 14 million Americans who lost their jobs to the Great Recession, at least 7 million of those Americans were republicans or conservatives. And WHAT did the 2009 stimulus package do for these republicans/conservatives??? It gave them the NECESSARY extension of unemployment benefits they needed to keep a roof over their family's heads and food on the table while they looked for work and it provided them with the healthcare coverage and dire funding they needed to pay their mortgage, send their kids off to school and keep their homes. So if you are republican/conservative and you benefited from these funding and are still supporting Romney and accusing the President of wasteful spending and of being a welfare President, then you're a hypocrit. And so is Paul Ryan because he took millions of dollars in stimulus funding for his state, yet he has been very critical and outspoken about the stimulus bill that he and his state of Wisconsin benefited from. So do some soul searching and check your principle and then take a good look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself if you like what you see.

Obama/Biden 2012 by a LANDSLIDE. Never mind the manipulated polls!

Wow know I know why CNN ratings are in the tank. All the liberal lies. Obama had full control for 2 years with a Democrat House and Senate and yes when the majority of Americans didn't want Obamacare and polls how they still don't he passed it. Democrats controlled the House from 2006 on. Democrats pushed for the Community Reinvestment act and Frank and Dodd kept saying they were fine before the bubble burst.
I really wonder why all you liberals are so jealous of Romney. Who care what he made and how much he is worth. He worked. Big difference from the Community Organizer. AND YES he broke all his promises to cut the debt, work with Congress, fix Medicare. AND he by executive order passed the DREAM ACT when it failed in Congress multiple times, ignored DOMA, tells Catholic hospitals to buy birth control. Don't you guys see your liberties being slowly taking away. How has Communism/ Socialism worked elsewhere. Give me one example. Maybe if you quit just watching CNN you might learn something and quit being driven by envy of success. Pathetic.
Pathetic is right....You lost all credibility when you came out talking about the liberals and the democrats as a party instead of keeping the aurgument about President Obama and Joe Isuzu...that's Mitt Romney for your information. That tells me you will vote Republican regardless of the bozo that wins the Republican nomination....and you had a car full of clowns to select from. You all just happen to select the one that has no integrity, and who will say anything you want to hear to get your vote. Who knows what this man stands for...I'm sure you don't!

As far as President Obama having a Democratic House and Senate for 2 years is concerned, well I think a President for the people knew it was best to concentrate on helping the majority of Americans (and not just the top 2%) by getting the affordable care act passed during this time instead of waiting for the mid term elections when it was possible the clown car and it's extremist tea drinkers could crash the party and say no to anything and everything even if it was something previously supported by the Republicans. You say the majority of Americans didn't want Obamacare ...aka, the affordable care act. Well, I know I wasn't asked for my opinion nor was anyone that I know. Oh, that's right, the polls said so...yeah, right. The same polls that have Romney and the President tied in Ohio and Florida....If you believe that I have a plan to sell you on how to turn bricks into gold!!

I think the President was pretty busy saving our economy from a total collapse...i.e. depression and keeping the vast majority of it's citizens out of soup lines while trying to mend our fracture relationship with the rest of the world. Excuse the Commander and Chief for working on getting our troops out of a false war (Iraq) and going after Osama Bin Laden.

I'm sure a great many Americans are happy the President helped the auto industry and help stablize an economy that was basically on life support and flatlining. If you don't care for Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi ensure you take up that cause to vote them out of office....right now we're talking about President Obama and Joe Isuzu and why the guy who is for ALL of America and not only 2% of America should be President.

  19. GOP Obstructionism Hurts America!

Wow know I know why CNN ratings are in the tank. All the liberal lies. Obama had full control for 2 years with a Democrat House and Senate
The President didn't have a filibuster-proof Senate and the Republicans in the Senate filibustered 137 times – triple the previous record. They blocked everything and even filibustered their own recommendations from committee! Go take a government class and explain to us all how a bill is passed when the Senate refuses to even debate or vote. That vermin Mitch McConnell vowed to do nothing but prevent the president from getting reelected and the Republicans obstructed all progress. Everything from the House since 2010 had "personhood" riders or other toxic riders to prevent passage of all bills. The Tea Party House owed their election to Grover Norquist and that was their priority – not the American people.

Where are the WMDs? Not four Americans but rather four thousand Americans lost their lives in an illegitimate Iraqi war and GWB, Dick Cheyney and Donald Rumsfeld lied to the American people, the United Nations and the world community about bogus WMDs. Furthermore, we continue to suffer casualties in Afghanistan in a war that was deliberately and recklessly abandoned and prolonged for the invasion of Iraq. And by the way, where was GWB and the GOP when our Twin Towers in NYC were attacked and our Pentagon was breached by al Qaeda???
