
(CNN) - New York, one of the states hit hardest by Superstorm Sandy, has extended the deadline for absentee ballots and applications not delivered or requested in person, the State Board of Elections said.
New York City's election preparation efforts have also been hampered by flooding, power outages, and transportation shutdowns. The city's election board said their offices in Manhattan and Staten Island were closed and phone hotline was not operating correctly, but that additional staff had been assigned to handle absentee ballots and election preparations.

Washington (CNN) - President Obama will wrap up his re-election campaign Monday with a rally in Des Moines, Iowa, his campaign announced Thursday. Early Monday, Obama will be stumping in Wisconsin and Ohio before heading to Iowa. The Monday stops will cap a weekend of cross-country campaigning.
Iowa was crucial to the president's 2008 victory – both his win in the state's caucuses that helped propel him to the Democratic nomination, and he captured the state in the general election with a 54%-44% victory over John McCain.

(CNN) – A television ad from Mitt Romney's campaign airing in Miami pegs President Barack Obama to Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro, notorious dictators widely reviled among Cuban Americans.

Roanoke, Virginia (CNN) - Mitt Romney effectively ended a two-day truce on the campaign trail Thursday, picking up again his attacks on the president after two days of less partisan rhetoric in the wake of the devastation caused by Superstorm Sandy.
At his first stop on a three-rally swing through Virginia, the GOP presidential nominee launched into a new criticism of Barack Obama, knocking the president's idea of streamlining his cabinet by installing a "Secretary of Business" who could handle a variety of tasks currently handled by different departments.

Private employers added 158,000 jobs in the month, ADP said, beating economists' forecasts of 143,000.

(CNN) - After four days off the campaign trail to deal with Superstorm Sandy, President Barack Obama heads back to three battleground states Thursday - Wisconsin, Nevada and Colorado.
His rival Mitt Romney will stump in Virginia, a make-up day of sorts after he canceled events there Sunday ahead of the storm.
The running mates are on the trail too - Vice President Biden in Iowa, and Rep. Paul Ryan in Colorado and Las Vegas.
