In fiery speech, Giuliani calls on Obama to resign, faults him for Libya

(CNN) - Not long after taking a few seconds of silence for those affected by Superstorm Sandy, Rudy Giuliani began ripping into President Barack Obama on Friday while speaking at major campaign event for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan in Ohio.

The former New York City mayor delivered a series of blistering zingers against the president, rallying the massive crowd with line after line of reasons why Obama should "resign" and faulting him for "incompetence" over the Libya consulate attacks.

With new numbers showing the unemployment rate had ticked up to 7.9%, Giuliani said the Obama administration should be "ashamed of themselves" for framing the figure as a positive sign. Giuliani, however, did not mention that 171,000 jobs were added last month–more than economists were expecting.

"He should resign! He told us he would resign if he did this poorly," Giuliani said, referring to a 2009 interview in which Obama vowed to turn the economy around in three years, otherwise there would be a "one-term proposition."

Giuliani continued to fire off: "He lied. He has been a disaster. The worst president for our economy in our lifetime. He doesn't want a second term. He wants a second chance, because he screwed it up the first time."

The former mayor, who also ran for president in 2008, pivoted to Romney's business experience, saying it should be considered a strength and blasted Democrats for making it a target on the campaign trail.

"They tried to humiliate him because of that. You know something, if Governor Romney can have the success for America that he had for Bain Capital, Thank God! Our people would be working again," Giuliani said, referencing Romney's former private equity firm.

Giuliani received perhaps his biggest applause of the night when he focused on the Benghazi consulate attacks, which killed four Americans, including the U.S. ambassador to Libya, in September. The administration is now investigating why the diplomatic post was not robustly staffed prior to and during the attacks.

The former mayor, a top surrogate for Romney's campaign, argued the violence would not have happened if Sen. John McCain had won the presidential election in 2008.

"Maybe if we had a president who was paying attention, we wouldn't be going through all this investigation of what's being covered up about Libya," he said.

He told the audience they have a chance to "right that wrong" by removing the president from office.

"You know that what happened in Libya is the result, at least, of incompetence," he said.

Giuliani placed the responsibility squarely on the Ohio audience to make the change in the Oval Office.

"You know what stands in his way? You know what's going to stop him? Ohio! You're going to do it," he said.

I find it hard to believe that anybody could be so out of touch with the truth as Giuliani is in this "speech". Does he think people are so ignorant as to forget what kind of financial shape this country was in in 2008?? He has completely lost his career by stooping so low.

I love former mayor Giuliani. He's truly American Hero during 911. But rhetoric is rhetoric. George Bush should have resigned after his first term. For falling asleep at the switch and not recognizing the threat of Al Queta. Or allowing Wall Street to run rampid on the middle class. But no 1 mentioned those levels of incompetence. Only 1 being criticized is the president who has worked his hardest for the middle class. Is being criticized for the great job he's done. Considering the dead man's hand he was dealt by the previous administration. And yet he was able to make it a royal flush.

When Giuliani was mayor of NYC, he had his wife and son in one wing of the mayor's mansion (Gracie Mansion) and his MISTRESS in the other wing.

    Class Act!

    Romney Surrogate!

Are ALL of mitts followers this low-life?

Why is Guiliani still in the public spotlight. He was an embarassment to NYC as a mayor, had even more scandals come to light when he tried to run for President, and even tried to push Bernie Kerik into a national office, which exposed even more scandal which landed Kerik in federal prison. He is an embarassment to the Republican party.

No one called for the resignation of G.W. Bush when he and Cheney misused intelligence to invade Iraq now did they? Iraq was not a threat to the USA and there were no weapons of mass destruction. You even want to over look the lost of lives of the Iraqi people and our military personnel not to mention the treasury that was spent to invade that country. Giuliani you tried to run for POTUS but you lost and your comments as far as I am concern means absolutely nothing.

President Obama should resign because there was not enough security at an out of the way consulate and 4 Americans died? Bush took us into a war that was based on lies about non-existent WMD's that cost 4489 American lives and he is a hero?

If you can't be philosophically consistent with your views then you should keep them to yourself Giuliani. Your hate is not needed and your opinion is foolish.

Of course Rudy Giuliani wants Romney to get elected. That way he can keep more of his $45 million dollar net worth. He speaks about Romney's success in business, but such all Bain Capital did by helping companies out and making money for themselves is offshore jobs from some of America's largest corporations to China in order to save money and also took out massive loans on the companies they were" helping's" behalf which ultimately left those companies with a massive amount of unplayable debt so that Romney could make a few extra million. Are these unethical business practices something we want to support in America should Romney be elected president? I sure hope not.

wow, former mayor giuliani, if i recall you and george bush lied to the american people on the original 9-11 attack. you took my kids and family into an war that was an lie. John mccain was also in that group. we lost many young men. the war bankrupt our country, but now i see you on cnn crying foul. i'm disappointed in you and cnn for even giving you an platform to divide this country. there was people buried for weeks in new york, before they was saved or found. so think how my kids feel when they see republicans disrespect the first ever black president. i guess we don't deserve your respect, mitt respect , john mccain, palin, ryan or any other person who see things differently. i don't recall cnn or fox holding interviews about the misled war. think of all the kids that died, because of the lies from the republic party.

I remember when the FDNY ran ads against Giuliani over his gross incompetence with 9/11 during his republican nomination bid in 2008. He even said that Romney will say anything to win. Now he becomes the ultimate hypocrite, and all while calling Obama the worst president for the economy in our lifetime. I guess he forgot the President who crushed the economy in the first place. What a tool.

The worst president for our economy in our lifetime was GW Bush, and his only compet ition is Reagan. Republicans are big spenders. It's their way of life.

Wow! Has Guillani forgotten that the most horrific attack on Amerian soil took place under his watch (911)? I will frame up my response this way using Guillani's own words, "Maybe if we had a MAYOR who was paying attention, we wouldn’t" had to experience 911, 2 wars, the killing of S.Hussien, and thousands of lives lost. What a hypocrite! Maybe he should get the plank out of his own eye before he criticizes the spec in Obama's.
