In fiery speech, Giuliani calls on Obama to resign, faults him for Libya

(CNN) - Not long after taking a few seconds of silence for those affected by Superstorm Sandy, Rudy Giuliani began ripping into President Barack Obama on Friday while speaking at major campaign event for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan in Ohio.

The former New York City mayor delivered a series of blistering zingers against the president, rallying the massive crowd with line after line of reasons why Obama should "resign" and faulting him for "incompetence" over the Libya consulate attacks.

With new numbers showing the unemployment rate had ticked up to 7.9%, Giuliani said the Obama administration should be "ashamed of themselves" for framing the figure as a positive sign. Giuliani, however, did not mention that 171,000 jobs were added last month–more than economists were expecting.

"He should resign! He told us he would resign if he did this poorly," Giuliani said, referring to a 2009 interview in which Obama vowed to turn the economy around in three years, otherwise there would be a "one-term proposition."

Giuliani continued to fire off: "He lied. He has been a disaster. The worst president for our economy in our lifetime. He doesn't want a second term. He wants a second chance, because he screwed it up the first time."

The former mayor, who also ran for president in 2008, pivoted to Romney's business experience, saying it should be considered a strength and blasted Democrats for making it a target on the campaign trail.

"They tried to humiliate him because of that. You know something, if Governor Romney can have the success for America that he had for Bain Capital, Thank God! Our people would be working again," Giuliani said, referencing Romney's former private equity firm.

Giuliani received perhaps his biggest applause of the night when he focused on the Benghazi consulate attacks, which killed four Americans, including the U.S. ambassador to Libya, in September. The administration is now investigating why the diplomatic post was not robustly staffed prior to and during the attacks.

The former mayor, a top surrogate for Romney's campaign, argued the violence would not have happened if Sen. John McCain had won the presidential election in 2008.

"Maybe if we had a president who was paying attention, we wouldn't be going through all this investigation of what's being covered up about Libya," he said.

He told the audience they have a chance to "right that wrong" by removing the president from office.

"You know that what happened in Libya is the result, at least, of incompetence," he said.

Giuliani placed the responsibility squarely on the Ohio audience to make the change in the Oval Office.

"You know what stands in his way? You know what's going to stop him? Ohio! You're going to do it," he said.

Now that he can't use 9/11 as a starting point for every sentence all that's left is shrill and kind of sad.

I usually don't get mad when I read the articles about the lies, revisionist views of history and downright ugly/bizarre comments from the right, I figure most of us are smart enough to figure out what they are about. Then I read some of the comments on these pages and I realize the too many have chosen to remain ignorant by choice and have also forgotten or revised in their memories what brought us to today. Thay are talking about Libya???? What about the two false wars by their guys and the thousands that have died in their name? How about the reasons for the economic failure that started 6 wks to 3 months before Obama ever took office. Rudy is a joke, has been for years. Listen to him and Trump and condinue your downhill destruction of the GOP (sic). The duplicity of the right and the GOP mouthers is huge. Shame on every single one of them, may the rot in the cauldron of crap they left behind four years ago.

When 241 American servicemen died in the 1983 Beirut barracks bombing, Democrats did not blame Reagan or asked Reagan to resign.

There is an ongoing investigation to determine what happened and what needs to be corrected. Let the investigation provide the answers, not people like Giuliani.

Under Bush's watch 2 planes, with Saudi's – NOT Iraqi's or Aghans – crashed into the twin towers. A Republican was president during our nations more recent national disaster and people reelected him, now that is outrageous. You can't fault Obama for Libya. Those service members, like all service members knew they were entering a dangerous situation. Blame Bush for entering us into a pointless war and causing the MidEast to hate us beyond hate.

Rudy, the United States is much better off with Obama, the fact that the economy has improved and the sinking ship was saved is evidence. Stick with security, you did a fine job protected the trade centers under your watch,,, right?

Giuliani needs to fade away from public view. The Republicans only goal is to undermine anything progressive that's proposed by Democrats. They are simply out of ideas and don't care about the American people.. we'll 47% of them anyway. Instead of roadblocking hard working Americans the Republicans should be paving the way for better health care and employment opportunities.

Giuliani is a bitter old man. His hate speech predicts the very type of presidency Romney will bring to this country. Hateful toward women, blacks and 47% of Americans. OHIO knows better that to fall for these lies.

Guiliani is just another washed up politician who is out at Romney's bidding doing the lowest level of campaigning. I guess we should hold him accountable for 9/11 since he was in charge of the city where it took place....what a sad creepy nut job represnting the Republican Party.

Lying has worked so well for Romney, Giuliani has to chime in! The GOT-Party has no shame! This is a man who lived 9/11 & I don't recall him telling Bush & Crew to resign over their incompetence! Instead they took photo ops together! Now he's screaming: Resign! to Obama! Hypocrite! What about those non-existant WMD's in Iraq!? Hans Blix & the UN searched numerous times & found Nothing! Still W/Cheney/Rumsfeldt decided a unilateral war in, not 1 but 2 countries, was called for! What about Gitmo & W's "torture is Ok" policies!? How many have died because of these ill adviced decisions!? No call for resignation from Giuliani then! In the last 4 years congress has protected the 1% by adding riders to jobs bills & other measures that could have us in a better position now! They're desperate to get the black man & Democrat out, to continue the downgrading of the pesky middleclass, so the new corporate plutocracy can take over! Obama, Forward to a Real Future Next Tuesday!!

If Obama should resign for Libya, why didn't Giuliani call for Bush to resign for 9-11? And to use Bain Capital as a "success" is a joke, considering all of the jobs that were outsourced, leaving behind unemployed Americans.

What a pompous pinhead Giuliani is. Ever since the Republicans decided he wasn't (and still clearly isn't) worthy of being their presidential nominee, he has been Mr. Bombast just seeking attention for himself. He needs to crawl back into the hole he came out of. Rudy, your 2001 glory is all gone and faded away. Goodbye, and don't let the door hit you on the way out.
