Wadsworth, Ohio (CNN) - Throwing cold water on any major effort during the lame duck Congress to reach a deal that would avert the fiscal cliff, House Speaker John Boehner told CNN on Sunday the best outcome would be some sort of temporary fix to postpone the cuts, but admitted even that would be tough to get through.
Sitting down for an interview with CNN at a sports bar in Ohio, Boehner said "lame duck Congresses aren't known for doing big things and probably shouldn't do big things, so I think the best you can hope for is a bridge."

(CNN) – Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney's running mate Rep. Paul Ryan urged Iowan's to choose between two starkly different futures in an op-ed in the Des Moines Register.
Making the case for his running mate, Ryan wrote in the op-ed published Saturday that, "Another four years of anemic economic growth, of ever-higher debt and deficits, would guarantee a diminished future for our children."

Mansfield, Ohio (CNN) – Vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan focused on shuttered auto plants and defense cuts at a campaign rally in north central Ohio on Sunday.
The Republican presidential ticket has struggled to overcome President Barack Obama's edge in the crucial battleground state perhaps in part because of Mitt Romney's opposition in 2008 to a federal auto bailout of the U.S. auto industry.

Wadsworth, Ohio (CNN) - House Speaker John Boehner on Sunday said he was "very confident" that Mitt Romney will win his home state of Ohio on Tuesday, but acknowledged that the auto bailout has helped the president with some voters here.
"Romney is doing well in Ohio. You know, polls don't decide elections, voters do," the speaker said, though he later added "the auto bailout may help the president in Ohio a little."

(CNN) – A top adviser for Mitt Romney's campaign explained Sunday why he thinks the GOP nominee can win Pennsylvania, a Democratic-leaning battleground that Romney's team has lumped into its final swing-state push.
"You have Obama who is under-performing, and we're over-performing and as a result you have president in a critical battleground state below 50 (percent) and it's presented us an opportunity," Kevin Madden said on a flight with reporters.

(CNN) - Voters in some New York counties may get an extra day to cast ballots if disruptions caused Superstorm Sandy prevent enough citizens from showing up at the polls, a state official said Sunday.
County election officials could ask New York state Board of Elections to allow polls to re-open for another day if Tuesday's turnout is less than 25%, according to state board spokesman Thomas Connolly said.
