(CNN) – While the focus may be on the presidential race as the days wind down to November 6, a poll released Sunday showed a close race in the battle for U.S. Senate in Montana.
The poll conducted for Lee Newspapers indicates Republican Rep. Denny Rehberg holding onto a slight advantage with 49% support among likely Montana voters to Democrat incumbent Sen. Jon Tester's 45%. Rehberg's edge is within the survey's sampling error.

A Lee Newspaper poll released in September also showed Rehberg, the state's sole representative in the U.S. House, with a slight advantage over the first-term incumbent senator, 48% to Tester's 45%.
Five percent of respondents in Sunday's poll were undecided and 1% said they support Libertarian candidate Dan Cox.
The candidates and outside groups have poured money into the Montana contest; one in a number of hotly contested "toss-up" races for U.S. Senate that will determine which party controls the upper chamber come January.
While Democrats currently control the Senate, 53 seats to the Republicans' 47, they are fighting to hold on to 23 (21 Democrats and two independents who caucus with the party) of the 33 seats up for grabs on November 6.
Sunday's survey was conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research for Lee Newspapers among 625 likely voters in Montana conducted last week. The poll has a sampling error of plus or minus four percentage points.
