Murphy defeats McMahon in Connecticut
(CNN) - In the closely watched senate race in Connecticut, Democratic Rep. Chris Murphy defeated Republican nominee and professional wrestling executive Linda McMahon, according to a CNN projection.
When the race was called, Murphy led by lopsided 60 percent to 39 percent in early tallying.

Obama, Romney campaigns and allies spend record $710 million on battleground advertising
Washington (CNN) - Shattering records, the Obama and Romney campaigns and their allies spent $710 million on general election ads in just 12 battleground states, according to a source tracking ad buys.
In the most heavily contested swing state of Ohio, the campaigns and the various independent committees supporting them saturated the airwaves with $146 million worth of commercials on broadcast and local cable. Close behind Ohio were the two other swing states most heavily fought over: Florida, where $133 million worth of ad time was purchased and Virginia, which saw $110 million worth of commercials.

Republicans pick up a governor's seat in North Carolina
(CNN) – Republicans have picked up a governor's seat in North Carolina with Republican Pat McCrory beating Walter Dalton, the sitting Lieutenant Governor, CNN has projected.
Democratic incumbent Beverly Perdue made history in 2008 when she became the first woman to win the North Carolina governorship, undoubtedly helped by Barack Obama's even more historic win there at the top of the ticket.

Nelson holds seat, defeats Mack
Washington (CNN) – Democratic incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson defeated Republican Rep. Connie Mack in the race for Florida's Senate seat on Tuesday, CNN projected.
At the time that the race was called, the incumbent garnered 57% of the vote, compared to Mack's 41% – with 49% reporting.

Maine elects an independent King
(CNN) - Maine elected former Gov. Angus King to the Senate Tuesday, CNN projected.
King, an independent, steadfastly has refused to say if he will organize with Democrats or Republicans when he gets to Washington, meaning if the Senate is narrowly divided after Tuesday's election, he could determine which party gets majority control.

Markell wins re-election as Delaware governor
(CNN) - CNN has projected Democratic Governor Jack Markell will be serving a second term as governor of Delaware, beating his Republican opponent Jeff Cragg.
Delaware has become an increasingly reliable Democratic state and with the defeat of former Rep. Mike Castle in the 2010 U.S. Senate primary, the state now has no Republicans in statewide elected office. Cragg, a small business owner from Wilmington was unlikely to change the GOP's fortunes, especially in a presidential election year with Vice President Joe Biden, a Delaware native, on the Democratic ticket.

Romney polling showed Obama lead in Ohio on Sunday
Boston (CNN) - Mitt Romney's internal campaign polling showed President Obama leading Ohio by five points on Sunday, the final day the campaign polled the state, two GOP sources told CNN.
The number represented a sharp final bump for Obama in Ohio, a race that had essentially been a tied race through much of the previous week, according to the campaign's daily tracking.

Vermont governor: Shumlin wins reelection
(CNN) – CNN has projected Democratic Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin beat his Republican competitor, Randy Brock, to win another term in Montpelier.
This year's election was expected to be less suspenseful for the incumbent than it was two years ago. That year, Shumlin narrowly edged his Republican opponent, Brian Dubie, 49% to 48%. Under Vermont law, the state legislature decides the gubernatorial election if no candidate receives a majority of the vote.
