Washington (CNNMoney) - Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner is staying in his job until at least the Jan. 21 presidential inauguration to help leaders reach a deal to avoid the fiscal cliff, a top White House aide said Friday.
Geithner, 51, the last holdover from President Barack Obama's original economic team, has made clear he's ready to leave after four tumultuous years. With Obama's victory on Tuesday, Geithner was expected to resign, but nobody was sure when.

This is old news. What's the next article about? Hillary Clinton is staying until Jan 20, 2014, to?
Done a real bang up job there Turbo Tax Timmy. 7.9% unemployment, record deficits, 1-2% GDP growth and a fiscal cliff dead ahead. Mission accomplished. Assuming massive misery was the mission.
Pres.Obama get someone not tied to Wall Street as Geithner was, democrate or not I don't trust any wall street goon!!There's someone out there that can help cure our countries ills and I hope for our countries sake you find him soon, maybe an economics professor or a real legit businessman ,not a Romney type, one for us as a country not corporate America!!
One by one they will be leaving Obama. It is hard to do ones job, that one is hired to do with constant interference from the senior staff and the President , who has learned nothing in the past 4 yrs, about leadership or governing. Since when do senior advisors to the President sit in on talks with foreign countries over the Sect. of State? ( Jerette with Iran)
>Pete
>Pres.Obama get someone not tied to Wall Street
i agree... we need somebody with some brains this time. maybe an unemployed carpenter or brick layer? he couldn't any worse.
maybe obama may ask romney to be the tres sec – surely romney doesn't want us to go off that so called cliff – – if we did go off that cliff – then all the billions that romney has – (that is sitting in offshore accts, wouldn't be worth anything, would it ? I mean, isn't that the way he got all those billions ? by selling all of those plants / shutting them down / & etc ?
So why did Geitner sit idly by while Obama ran up $5 trillion in debt and is set to run up another $5 trillion??? Does he call this doing a good job??? Why wasn't he calling for massive tax increases to pay for the government? Why was he letting all this debt be piled on the backs of our kids???
