Obama mentions his now-former presidential rival

(CNN) - Mitt Romney may not be on the campaign trail any longer, but he still landed a mention - or two - in President Barack Obama's Wednesday press conference.

Asked about his election night pledge to meet with his former presidential rival, Obama said "we haven't scheduled something yet."

"I think everybody forgets that the election was only a week ago," Obama said. "I know I've forgotten. I forgot on Wednesday."

"My hope is before the end of the year, though, that we have a chance to sit down and talk. There are certain aspects of Governor Romney's record and his ideas that I think could be very helpful," he continued, specifically citing Romney's leadership of the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic Games.

Romney has stayed out of the spotlight since his Election Night remarks in Boston. This was Obama's first press conference since winning re-election.

In his acceptance speech a week ago, Obama congratulated Romney on his campaign.

"In the weeks ahead, I also look forward to sitting down with Governor Romney to talk about where we can work together to move this country forward," Obama continued.

Asked about the president's remarks on Wednesday, a longtime senior adviser to Romney, Eric Fehrnstrom, said, "Governor Romney looks forward to meeting with the President."

He did not say whether Romney had seen the president's press conference.

Obama made another mention of Romney in his remarks when he spoke on his proposal for averting the so-called fiscal cliff.

"If there was one thing that everybody understood was a big difference between myself and Mr. Romney, it was when it comes to how we reduce our deficit, I argued for a balanced, responsible approach, and part of that included making sure that the wealthiest Americans pay a little bit more," Obama said.

Romney has nothing to offer to the American people. His statements to the donor-group show that he has no intentions to make a positive contribution to the country! Never has and never will! No surprise there!
