Rep. Steve Israel will return as the DCCC chairman, and the group's outgoing executive director, Robby Mook, will be the campaign manager for Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe.

"I'm honored to be working with Chairman Israel and House Democrats to continue the progress we've made," Ward said in a statement. "We will have a strong, dynamic and aggressive team at the DCCC who will work to continue our success in 2014."

Democrats netted a win of at least three seats from the Republicans and could pick up more once five races which remain too close to call are decided. Republicans will maintain control of the House in the next term with at least 234 seats to Democrats' at least 196 seats.
