Washington (CNN) – Despite a rough election for the GOP, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus is seeking re-election and Friday reached out to state Republican officials across the country asking for their support, sources familiar with the conversations told CNN.
Several officials familiar with the process said they think as of now Priebus has enough support to win.

"He is reaching out to members about his plans to run for re-election. He enjoys deep support on the committee, and I expect him to be re-elected with overwhelming support. At this point, no one else is making any efforts to contact RNC members about challenging Priebus," one RNC member told CNN, on the condition of anonymity.
"As of now Reince wins. Folks like him, and he is escaping most of the blame game. And I am not sure anyone else really wants it. If governors get behind someone that could change things," a separate veteran RNC member told CNN Chief National Correspondent John King, also on the condition of anonymity. "But right now it is Reince."
Priebus, the former head of the Wisconsin Republican party, two years ago took the helm of a Republican National Committee that was deep in debt. He is credited with turning it around financially after the controversial tenure of former chairman Michael Steele.
The committee will meet in January to elect the chairman.
In a letter to RNC members obtained by CNN, Priebus wrote, "This past week many of you have reached out to me over the phone and by email, and I thank you for your support, encouragement, and commitment to our Party."
"Also, I am humbled by the over 130 RNC Members who I have talked to who have pledged their support and public endorsement for me to continue on as Chairman so we can finish the job that we started and continue to grow our Party," he wrote. "When I return the week after Thanksgiving, I intend to make an official announcement that I am running to continue on as your Chairman, but I wanted to let you all know first."
The RNC has already started a review to look at the problems the Republicans had during this election, including surveys of voters in battleground states which are already underway.
"While the election is still top of the mind, we need to get the best data possible," RNC Communicators Director Sean Spicer told CNN last week.
The two-month long review will also include focus groups, meetings with constituency group leaders, and discussions with party staff, donors and volunteers.
"There's a lot of things that we did extremely well. We need to continue them. We made more voter contacts than ever before. Our research, our videos, were second to none. Our fundraising was phenomenal," added Spicer. "But there were things that didn't work as well. We need to improve on those things. We need to ask ourselves what can we do better."
The review will also study how President Obama's campaign was so successful in turning out the vote and its methods.

@jimranes......I agree, and if you look closely at this guys face, he does resemble a rat quite a bit.......he has "rat like" features to be sure. That explains a lot.
Rinsed Prius is doing a fantastic job. Vote this extra pink nutcase back in - Please! He's sure to put the GOP into extinction.
Try go rincemy pennis for president of China or cayman islands .
He does look like a rat.
Truly. Scary.
One weasel is as good as any other.
I love it. A dunce reelected by idiots. No wonder the GOP is in such a mess.
I love the way he worded the letter "continue to grow our party" Yeah, keep thinking that...
This guy it the true image of the Republican Party. I hope they vote for him again he will speed up the party voyage to obscurity and irrelevance.
If the republicans have learned anything from their recent loss, they will drop Preibus asap! He represents everything that is wrong with the GOP!
Heck, this bomb couldn't help Ryan win their own state in the general election!!! What a bunch of losers running together...
Re-election of Priebus would mean more of the same GOP/Tea Party in decline.
The Republican Party Chairman did not bring voters in to the party. There are still many groups that are not represented in the party because people do not feel they are welcomed in to the Party. The candidates certainly have not contributed to this either.
I believe that the RNC should get rid of Priebus. His salary is too high compared to what success (or lack thereof) he has brought to the GOP.
They should replace him with that guy from Fox News who likes to talk about "free stuff" ... after all, he and Rush are running the party anyway.
We don't need no stinkin Priebus! We don't need no stinkin Mitch McConnell.! We don't need no stinkin Boehner. We don't need no stinkin Eric Cantor. We don 't need no stinkinMichele Bachman!
As a Democrat, I wholeheartedly endorse his candidacy as I am certain he will cost the GOP even more seats in the next midterm.
I am a Democrat and support him 100%! I hope to see him and Karl Rove in four years and see how thet deal with Hillary.
You gotta give old Mr.Whinyface credit for having nerve.... No talent, no class, no experience. But plenty of nerve.
Please PLEASE! re-elect this incompetent.
This numbskull just presided over a disastrous presidential election, senatorial election AND congressional election cycle and they are going to re-elect him? They should kick his but out the door.
As a former boss of mine used to say: You are either part of the problem or part of the solution and your part starts with a P. Priebus position starts with a P.
I do not think GOP is out of their mind to reward a person like Priebus, who did not deliver anything to the Party during his term as Chairman.
Yes, please reelect Rancid Peaches. He did SOOOO well. Hahahaaaa!!
I was wondering where Mr. Pixie Dust has been since the great GOP results in the election. Please keep him on as he has been a great help to the Democrats.
Just what is needed....more lies and venom from the Priebus bozo.
🙂 🙂
This is priceless because he did such a good job in first term. The only difference between him and steele, besides the color of their skin which they thought would help in 2008, is that he didn't spend money in a lesbian club or go to Hawaii while claiming no money.
LOL! Sure, re-elect this little weasel. He's the gift that keeps on giving.
