(CNN) - Republicans this week increased pressure on President Barack Obama to drop any thought of nominating U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice as secretary of state.
In a letter to Obama, 97 House Republicans questioned Rice's credibility "at home and around the world" after her "misleading" public statements about the origin of the deadly September attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya.

Only 97 out of 235? Things are getting better!! One more election cycle and it will be down to 50....Some times you need to pick your battles and not fight every single one. People would be less dismissive then.
This letter is ridiculous it is because they lost the election and trying to discredit this President by disrespecting him. Susan Rice is more qualified than most all of them that signed the letter. They have never respected women, women of color and are speaking in code which is understood by some especially coming from Graham and the other Southerners. McCain is just an angry old man seething from the last election and for him to say Susan Rice is not bright is appalling when he chose Sarah Palin for his running mate.
This hold mess reeks of racism by old white men and the hatred of this President in the 21st century. They should know better than to criticize the President when he is on foreign soil but we can't expect any more from them. The American people will settle this and their destiny they need to understand that we are tired of all their rhetoric.
President Obama we are on your side and God Bless them.
These angry racist pigs will stop at absolutely nothing to tear down intelligent, hard working black people. (See Holder, Rice and Jarrett) but honestly, I don't think SR is right person for the job of SOS and Benghazi has nothing to do with it. I just feel she could be better served elsewhere in the administration-but just to see their racist faces EXPLODE, I would love to see the president nominate her if for no other reason, than to send a message that he does not give a d--- about their aproval or their anger. For that, I say stick it to them Mr. President!
And today, Senator John "get off my lawn" McCain released a statement where he claimed that the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) was responsible for removing any references to al-Quaeda from official talking points that were given to the Administration.
It sounds like McCain –by blaming DNI for removing those references–has implicitly exonerated Ambassador Rice of the very things House Republicans are frothing over.
I think this brouhaha is just a cunning plan to derail Ambassador Rice's nomination, get John Kerry in as Secretary of State, and then have a special election to put Scott Brown back in the Senate. Has McCain knocked this little plan off the rails? One can hope....
Hey, 97 House Republicans. Grow up. Your party lost. We'll have hearings to evaluate the successor to Secretary Clinton. No one listens to your sour grapes silliness.
It is so tiresome to see the GOT-Party so predictably cantankerous! They just will not let this go even though they now have the answers! Why are they trying to block something that is simply a rumor at this time, isn't there a fiscal cliff to worry about? Many people in this country & abroad think Bush & Cheney are war criminals & should be tried as such! I don't forsee that happening in my lifetime! This incident doesn't begin to compare to the betrayal the Bush administration perpetrated w/their unilateral war in Iraq! Benghazi was a tragedy & confusing for a while! Many incidents like it, have been likewise, during either party's administration! This issue has been blown out of proportion & politizied to the nth degree & it's time to say Enough! There is a national economy to worry about!!
Is senator McCain the President of the USA? NO. So by what right does he (originally alone with one other Republican)claim to be able to dictate to the President who has the sole nominating right that he must not nominate Susan Rice for sec of state.... so far as I know noone has been nominated for any potentially vacant position in the Cabinet!?
This whole Benghazi witch hunts purpose is an attempt to some discredit Obama personally... all the rest is pure foreplay and realtive to Rice I believe she said in the main parts of her comments contextually were that" it was a small demonstration in response to the film BUT also taken over by extremists.... Patraeus comes the day after with specifically Al qaeda and Obama alludes to terrorists in his staement from the whitehouse and says will will hunt down and identify them. Now with 20.20 vision we know it was not specifically alQaeda but a combination of 3 extremist islamic groups.
Rather than this witch hunt I wish all our politicians would as much time and effort and passion into resolving the fiscal cliff.
Regards,
Hodgson.
Republicans are still sore over their recent political beatings and are like kids in their sand box after someone took their ball away..All Ms.Rice was doing was conveying info she recently got from Intel, nothing more and shouldn't be ridiculed because of this especially from the Dork and Mork, McCain and Graham two ancient politicians that are past their primes..Just two old hacks that forgot to go to security briefings and when they missed out and confronted by reporters they lashed out like annal retentives and that's bring polite..Pres.Obama can put pressure if he wants too and Ms.Rice will be selected whether McCain and Graham like it or not..Remember republicans you only have two more years to work things out for America and that means McCain,Graham as well either work constructively or hit the road, the choice is yours.Republicans put you there and Democrates with Independants help will take you out.No more teaparty crap,it won't be tolerated and that's a warning from Americans nationwide!!
Those 97 house rats should be deported to Libya.
Of course they dont want Rice. They want John Kerry, so his Senate seat will open up and they are stupid enough to think they could win it. Repubs still playing games.
For all the ignorant out there who are saying this is sexist and racist, a Republican president, George W. Bush had the first female African American Secretary of State in his Cabinet – Condoleeza Rice. So get over your republican bashing. ALL citizens should be seeking answers to the Benghazi tragedy. This isn't a partisan issue, but has been manufacutured as one by the Obama admin. – much like the ones in his campaign. We are ALL citizens – we don't live in a dictatorship. We deserve answers about our slain fellow Americans, and the truth will be exposed.
What happend to my beloved GOP party? The just keep digging and all they come up with is dirt.some of the republic party want to creat reality.
Are these people serious? Even if there was some cover-up, which there wasn't, she was only giving the talking reports provided. When are these Republicans going to get it? Keep it up and more od you will be voted out next election. Focus on the people, and stop with the fake outrage!
Mcsongbird just doesn't want to see a woman – ANY WOMAN – in a position of power that he could never achieve.
He even suggested Bill Clinton go to Israel. Why? Hillary Clinton, our Secretary of State, should go – but she's a woman. Shame on McSongbird. Especilally after foisting that numbskull on us as an offering for VP. He selected an idiot, so his suggestions should be totally discarded. Grow up McSongbird.
Women are smarter than you (You finished 3rd from last in the Naval Academy, which wouldn't have even taken you if it weren't for your dad).
Get rid of all republicans in congress in the next election ,the gop was totally responsible for 9-11 and 3000 deaths through their total incompetents but said nothing then and have 0 credibility on any issue.
These 97 are probably the same goofballs who signed the pledge to the crook lobbyist rover nitwitquest the American subversive traitor !!!! The gop has no credibility on any issue anymore and will be gone down the toilet like romney by 2016 !!!!!
Credibility? Over half of the millions of people in the U.S. are aware of Republicans constantly making misleading public statements. HYPOCRITES!!!!
