Eva Longoria lands inauguration role

(CNN) - President Barack Obama's second inauguration will again include a "national day of service" and his inaugural committee includes honorary chairman roles for the four living ex-presidents, the committee announced Thursday.

Obama's public inauguration events will take place on Monday, January 21, 2013, though he will be officially sworn in for his second term of office on January 20. The U.S. Constitution specifies a presidential term begins at noon on January 20th. The public events however will be held the next day because the 20th is a Sunday.

Officials from the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority have predicted as many as 800,000 people will use public transportation on inauguration and the preceding two days, a drop from the 1.5 million people WMATA said it transported around the last inauguration in 2009.

Former Presidents Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush will serve as honorary co-chairmen of the weekend. The event chairs include top officials of Obama's 2012 re-election campaign.

Actress Eva Longoria, a co-chairwoman of his campaign, and former U.S. Ambassador to Sweden Matthew Barzun, the national finance chairman of Obama's campaign, will serve as co-chairs of the Presidential Inaugural Committee. They will be joined by Jane Stetson, the national finance chairwoman of the DNC, and Frank White, who served on the Obama administration's National Advisory Council on Minority Business Enterprises.

Several top staffers from Obama's campaign will lead key aspects of inaugural weekend events.

His campaign manager, Jim Messina, will head the inaugural parade, while campaign deputies will lead efforts such as the national day of service, inaugural balls.

On the Saturday before his inauguration, Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, and members of each of their families will participate in a national day of service. They will encourage "Americans across the country to organize and participate in service projects in their communities," the committee said.

    I like Obama. He's done a good job so far. I expect a better job in the next four years. I'm proud of my vote for him.

    Right wingers are SO bitter that now they'll attack somebody like Eva just because she supports the president. Well one thing is for sure the likes of Hank Williams, Jr and Ted Nugent won't be there. While you bitter righties are at it why not attack all the former living presidents that will be honored too since 2 of them are Republicans as well. What a bunch of whiners.

    @Odumbama
    What a seriously silly comment – presidents have never had to divorce their wives before inviting people to participate in inauguration events. I'm quite certain that Michelle Obama will also be there. It's one thing to be catty and quite another to be completely ignorant.

    Inauguration? I thought it's supposed to be a coronation. Obama won by in his words "an overwhelming majority resulting in a landslide". He has in his words a mandate to "run things my way". So, should we not have a coronation instead of an inauguration? Shouldn't the ceremony fit the occasion? This could well be the last one in quite a while. After all Obama is not very old and with all the basketball and golf he keeps himself in pretty good condition, physically. He's destroyed the GOP and already has a long list of "not to enforce laws", bypasses the Constitution on a regular basis and has his enforcers led by Eric Holder. His up coming civilian security force is in the works, a force that he claims will be as powerful and well funded as the military to achieve his national security goals. So, again, this ceremony should be a coronation.

    @Rick, Do you really think anyone cares what you watch? Ha....Faux news is a bunch of hogwash. Only the intellectually deficient believe that garbage. So why would anyone, anywhere, at anytime, care what you watch? So go lay down and give it a rest.

    Go Obama, you old dog! Keep up the good work, lieing, spending taxpayer money, why don't you spend your own money on your hair-brained schemes (like Solyndra). You like spending other peoples money, don't you? You keep paying back your friends with our money. Have you no shame? You are supposed to be protecting the American people and you only care about yourself, spoiled rotten childish jerk!

    wonder if she is going to like her new tax bracket. I think that all of the hollywood hypocrites should donate everything they make over $250,000 since their candidate is so intent on turning us into socialists.

    Why does he need a second inauguration? He is already President. Wouldn't that money be better spent helping someone? It isn't necessary to have a second inauguration for the same president, regardless of party affiliation.

    @Noresistence.

    Because that's the way it is. He gets a second inauguration just like EVERY other POTUS that has won a second term. Why is it that so many people think THIS President shouldn't be allowed the same EXACT things that all others have??? Why all the outrage NOW?

    Why wouldn't we take the money that is gonna be wasted on this event and put it towards the budget that is just out of control. This is probably the only opportunity we are gonna have to cut back on the national debt.
