Romney spotted ringside at Marquez-Pacquiao fight

(CNN) - Mitt Romney ended his political battle a month ago, but the former GOP presidential nominee took in a different kind of fight Saturday: a non-title bout in Las Vegas between boxers Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao.

Romney shook Pacquiao's hand before the fight, wishing him success in the match. Pacquiao himself is also a politician, serving as a congressman in his native Philippines. He has endorsed some American politicians, including Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Democrat.

According to a tweet from Greg Bishop, who covers boxing for the New York Times, Romney greeted Pacquiao in the locker room after the bout, telling the defeated fighter: "Hello Manny. I ran for president. I lost."

The fight came to an end 2:59 into the sixth round, after Marquez landed a right hand to Pacquiao's face, knocking him cold late Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Pacquiao went down face-first and lay motionless for a while, possibly unconscious, before eventually sitting up. It was called a technical knockout and Marquez declared the winner.

Pacquiao shook Marquez' hand.

The fight was originally scheduled for 12 rounds. Both fighters scored knock-downs earlier in the fight with Marquez putting Pacquiao on his back and Pacquiao tipping Marquez enough off of his feet to cause one of his gloves to touch the mat.

CNN's Ben Brumfield and Jill Martin contributed to this report.

@mm, graciously conceded? He kept world awake an extra two hours because he could not accept defeat and his ego is so big that he hadn't written a concession speech!!! See rove have a meltdown on faux news because they were so sure they would win Ohio. The only swing state they were able to cheat on the election was NC and Florida was NOT a determining factor in 2012.

Actually Mittens is not a Billionaire, his net worth was reported to be less than 1/4 of a Billion or $225 million. NOT a Billionaire, but, Billionaire Koch Brothers did spend lots and lots and lots supporting him, and Bain owned Clear Channels spent $100 million a YEAR on Hannity and Limbaugh who propagandized him. He lost a lot of money for a lot of angry white billionaire men. Maybe he went to the fight to learn some pointers in case he's ever alone with one of them!

That's right Marie, thanks to Willard and Rove, I missed President Obama's acceptance speech and Willards concession speech. He knew he had lost. The audacity of him to have only written an acceptance speech. Did you hear about the $25,000 victory fireworks display?? He actually believed FAUX Noise and thought he had the election sewed up. I still can't forget him in the final debate continually saying, " when I'm President."

I also heard Queenie is taking it harder than him.

Romney will never get over the lost! Get a life you are rich but the people spoke. AND watching a fight, that explains a lot about you.

I hope New York Times will make "VOTERS" the people/person of the Year 2012. Can anyone imagine how voters were extremely clever this election 2012 when:
    1. Mitt who was begging a job from them denied completely to show his Tax Returns for certain years – with one voice they said: We will fix you!
    2. Mitt enjoying his dinner with those burning candles in glass and he insulted the 47% – with one voice they said: We will fix you!
They did it and Romney is now in places where he didn't think to be at this time of the year. With all games; Romney watching boxing!

The real story is about boxing and why we haven't evolved away from the activity. In football we go to great lengths to avoid impacts to the head – wearing good helmets and enforcing regulations to protect players from head injury. Recent studies show head trauma to cause significant long-term effects. In boxing the head trauma is cheered and the "knockout" makes the headlines as something good. Are boxers just more expendable?

Come on guys! I'm as glad as anyone that Romney didn't win, but there is no need to go around bashing him. The elections over, let him and Ann live their lives in peace.

You look at this guy and you have to ask yourself. How could so many people think he was presidential material?

And somebody, please, lend Ann a brush. She looks like she's wearing dreads.

Since the article mentioned Harry Reid, it should have mentioned that Reid had also been a boxer many years ago.

I'm surprised Mitt and Ann-toinette's tough guy son didn't step into the ring and take on both boxers.

Tough Guy Tagg would knock out everyone in the arena...just give him a big glass of his father's 'Coward Milk'.
