(CNN) – George W. Bush is going to be a grandfather.
The former president's daughter Jenna announced Wednesday she was "nervous and so excited" to be expecting her first child, due sometime in the spring of 2013.
"I'm a first-time mom, but it's something I've always wanted. I'm a teacher and I love kids," Jenna Bush Hager, 31, said on NBC's "Today Show," where she serves as a contributor.
She appeared on the show with her husband Henry Hager, whom she married in 2008 on her family's 1,600-acre ranch in Crawford, Texas. Hager said his wife would "instill wonderful values" on their new baby.
The former president, who phoned into the show along with his wife Laura, declared he was "fired up" about becoming a grandfather – but that he wasn't planning on changing any diapers in the near future.
"I'll be the guy in the Ford 250 driving around the ranch with the grandchild," George W. Bush said.
Laura Bush said she was "thrilled for Jenna and Henry and, of course, for George and me to have the grandchildren we've been really looking forward to."
In the months before Jenna's wedding four years ago, the first lady joked about potential names for their first grandchild
"George or Georgia ... Georgina. Georgette," she speculated.
And what will the new addition to the Bush clan call the former leader of the free world?
"Sir," the former president joked.
CNN's Kevin Liptak contributed to this report.
Congratulation Jen, your father was the great president and if he has to run for president again then would have voted for him. I like Mr. Bush. I have voted democratic twice but
Iam Bush fan as an Independent voter. For those who do not like Mr. Bush , you will like in next five years and be able to understand the great job he has done. Thank you Mr. President wherever you are and get your back . Good luck Jen.
Says a lot when people care more about Kate than Jenna Bush – & why should this be in the news anyway?
Congratulations and best wishes Henry, Jenna and family.
The venom is positively horrific. Congratulations to the Bush and Hager families. The new child will be loved and taught to show respect even to those, like many of these posters, who deserve none. Class breeds class.
As much as I dislike her father, congratulations to Ms Bush. I hope that she proves to be a good parent.
These comments make me sad for humanity
Congrats to the new mom and her family. I am not a rebublican but I am disappointed in the immature comments and utter non sense. It scares me that these are people who cast votes.
Congrats to her and her family. At least she's done charity and mission work unlike that hedge fund hypocrit limousine liberal Chelsea Clinton!
Wow. Really ashamed to see these comments. I am NO FAN of former President Bush but how is this woman in ANY way deserving of this kind of scorn? Would you want this for yourself? Or your children? Or your children's children? This is a joyous occasion for her and her family.
Shame on all of you.
Good luck, you'll need it. Do some outing while you can.
She really was a brat when she complained about her dad telling a "few" friends. She didn't like it at all that he told anyone she was pregnant. She has a smart mouth on her and talks to her parents like trash. She was telling her off on national TV. Now that is a daughter to be soooo proud of.
am happy for her,
If some network would just go ahead and give the Bush family a reality show, we wouldn't have to depend on CNN to provide these updates.
Interesting how many ways the hateful left can express their loathing towards others.
.
Congratulations to both – parents and grandparents alike!
Wow she looks like her father.
May her pregnancy go well and may her child be born healthy.
How about naming baby Osama.
Can everyone stop hater. All you had to say congral on the birth o best wish on your first child. She didn't do anything and don't judge her for what exactly her father as President. You don't want anyone come between you with hater
