(CNN) – George W. Bush is going to be a grandfather.
The former president's daughter Jenna announced Wednesday she was "nervous and so excited" to be expecting her first child, due sometime in the spring of 2013.
"I'm a first-time mom, but it's something I've always wanted. I'm a teacher and I love kids," Jenna Bush Hager, 31, said on NBC's "Today Show," where she serves as a contributor.
She appeared on the show with her husband Henry Hager, whom she married in 2008 on her family's 1,600-acre ranch in Crawford, Texas. Hager said his wife would "instill wonderful values" on their new baby.
The former president, who phoned into the show along with his wife Laura, declared he was "fired up" about becoming a grandfather – but that he wasn't planning on changing any diapers in the near future.
"I'll be the guy in the Ford 250 driving around the ranch with the grandchild," George W. Bush said.
Laura Bush said she was "thrilled for Jenna and Henry and, of course, for George and me to have the grandchildren we've been really looking forward to."
In the months before Jenna's wedding four years ago, the first lady joked about potential names for their first grandchild
"George or Georgia ... Georgina. Georgette," she speculated.
And what will the new addition to the Bush clan call the former leader of the free world?
"Sir," the former president joked.

Congatulations Jenna!
Happy for you!
Good for president's family God bless you.. God bless America
History will always have a place dedicated and carved out just for the Bush family ....as it should after all him and his father have shaped the coarse of our country for years to come. Let's hope we never forget lessons learned from this era. Hope and wish the best for him and all his family to enjoy their life out of politics and to stay out of politics.
I hope all goes well with the pregnancy and birth. Good luck to Jenna!
Congrats.
Good for her. She's a pretty girl! All the luck for them.
Congrats to the Bush family!
I bet if it was Clinton's girl these comments would be positive. Get over yourself people and be happy for her.
I'm glad to hear the news! Best wishes to the Bush family, Jenna and her husband Henry. I would much rather hear this news than to hear about the obama's extravagant vacation.
Congratulations Jenna! It's nice to see someone getting married first BEFORE having children. You're a great teacher and role model to all girls!
Oh, good grief, give it a rest.. It is noteworthy that the girl who grew up in the White house is now pregnant.
Mr President and family,
Congratulations on being grandparents! I am happy for you and it is a blessing not everyone gets to experience specially!
Be blessed!
Such happy and wonderful news! Congratulations to Jenna and the entire Bush and Hager families!!!
Haters gonna be haters I want to congrat jenna and her husband on the pending birth of their first child .
Hey Jenna, if you're reading this, congrats to you and the rest of your family!
Congrats and I pray that George H. W. Bush is better.
Its a good news the family of bush re going to be happy
That's nice, congrats for her and her family.
But CNN is reduced to having this fluff on their "Political Ticker" when she's not a poltical entity – sad & hopeless.
Congratulations to Jenna and her husband! I love her segments on the Today Show.
Wish Jenna all the best, " BUT CNN WHY IS THIS NEWS?"
Congratulations, let the Bush lineage continue growing.
Some people ought to get over the whole Bush presidency thing. It's old news and this news story isn't even politics.
While I don't care about this news, this doesn't mean others don't care as well. To say that "most" don't care is generalization. This is really no different than other celebrities getting publicized for being pregnant, adopting, etc. Jenna Bush is a public figure to a certain extent.
It is truly a blessing to hear of a family that started after marriage vows were said congratulations on the new addition
Congrats to Jenna and the whole Bush family. George Bush was a great president and I'm sure he will be a wonderful grandfather. To all those who think he was a bad president all I'm going to say is when he was president my carpenter husband worked every day. Since Obama has been in office my husband has been laid off every year for about four consecutive months. Nuff said.
