Former first daughter Jenna Bush pregnant

(CNN) – George W. Bush is going to be a grandfather.

The former president's daughter Jenna announced Wednesday she was "nervous and so excited" to be expecting her first child, due sometime in the spring of 2013.

"I'm a first-time mom, but it's something I've always wanted. I'm a teacher and I love kids," Jenna Bush Hager, 31, said on NBC's "Today Show," where she serves as a contributor.

She appeared on the show with her husband Henry Hager, whom she married in 2008 on her family's 1,600-acre ranch in Crawford, Texas. Hager said his wife would "instill wonderful values" on their new baby.

The former president, who phoned into the show along with his wife Laura, declared he was "fired up" about becoming a grandfather – but that he wasn't planning on changing any diapers in the near future.

"I'll be the guy in the Ford 250 driving around the ranch with the grandchild," George W. Bush said.

Laura Bush said she was "thrilled for Jenna and Henry and, of course, for George and me to have the grandchildren we've been really looking forward to."

In the months before Jenna's wedding four years ago, the first lady joked about potential names for their first grandchild

"George or Georgia ... Georgina. Georgette," she speculated.

And what will the new addition to the Bush clan call the former leader of the free world?

"Sir," the former president joked.

CNN's Kevin Liptak contributed to this report.

I'd rather here this than to hear about the obama's lavish vacation. Congrats to Jenna,Henry and to Mr. And Mrs. Bush.

i am tired of the news reporting every little thing about the rich and the elite. no one cares if our family members are having a baby is sick or anything else. lets report on the news not glorifying the rich. time to take them all off there pedistal. we made them wealthy with our sweat we can break them alot easier. america wake up to the hype. they dont care about you. why would you care about them???

Honestly? While most people are happy when someone announces a pregnancy, HOW is this even a front page news item? In the scheme of world events, she is nothing. I am happy for her and her husband but seriously....not worth this nugget being shoved down the public's throats. It is like saying Brittney Spears' cousin won $100 with lottery. She is not famous for anything other than being a daughter of a long ago president. If her pregnancy somehow fixes Medicare or Social Security, by all means...I want to know.

I'm not at all a Bush fan, but as a grandparent myself I send the family best wishes. It's truly an exciting time! Let's hope Cowboy Dubya remembers to use a car seat while driving the kiddo around the ranch.

I was really surprised she didn't get pregnant while partying at UT. But many congrats nevertheless and well wishes.

wow – lots of envy – no-one is being forced to read this. Obviously you logged into cnn. This stuff doesn't bother me too much because I don't often read it. I did today because I wasn't sure if she was married – with her keeping the family name. Glad that she is and that her and husband have waited and planned for their child. Wishing them good luck.

I wish the best of health to all concerned. Bummer, though, this child will be the grandchild of one of the worst Presidents in American history...

Well we all know in 42 or so years this kid will be running as a republican in order to give tax breaks to the rich and make up intel so he can invade Saudi Arabia for their oil.

I wish I could say i was surprised by the level of hatred of those who support Democrats. It's become a part of their every day life now, spewing hate at anything they don't agree with.

STILL Trending, CNN? I was hoping for an interesting story to read while on lunch break. I urge you to send your crack reporting staff to any public WC in the D.C. area - perhaps a politician is doing something naughty in there, or something. Hop to it!

You can hate Bush but don't need to transfer your hates to his daughters & his wife. Many young people were partying & drinking while in college, as long as they quite these bad habits when they grew older. She's a teacher and I always respect people choice this career, they don't make a lot. With his family connections, she could have chosen other path to make a million. Bush other twin,Barbara, a volunteer in the 3rd countries, to witness so many unfortunates inside and outside the country, she said health insurance shouldn't be the privilege for the rich, she praised OBama's ACA after it signed into law 2 years ago.
Unlike their father, they both grow well.

A well raised young lady, she did it right, she got married first then had a child, this is the proper way to have children. It's a good thing that some parents raised their children up the proper way.

How about Congratulations to the Hager and Bush families. An announcement that they will be welcoming a child into thier family is not the platform for spewing hate. No wonder this Country is as divided as it is. Take a breath and deal with your own issues which will leave you less time to play on the computer.

And....? She has a husband too. The media always tries to make things sound like a scandel when it involves the Bush family. Congrats to the Bush family, unlike the Obama's, Bidenk, and Polosi's they don't believe in killing off their offspring.
