Former first daughter Jenna Bush pregnant

(CNN) – George W. Bush is going to be a grandfather.

The former president's daughter Jenna announced Wednesday she was "nervous and so excited" to be expecting her first child, due sometime in the spring of 2013.

"I'm a first-time mom, but it's something I've always wanted. I'm a teacher and I love kids," Jenna Bush Hager, 31, said on NBC's "Today Show," where she serves as a contributor.

She appeared on the show with her husband Henry Hager, whom she married in 2008 on her family's 1,600-acre ranch in Crawford, Texas. Hager said his wife would "instill wonderful values" on their new baby.

The former president, who phoned into the show along with his wife Laura, declared he was "fired up" about becoming a grandfather – but that he wasn't planning on changing any diapers in the near future.

"I'll be the guy in the Ford 250 driving around the ranch with the grandchild," George W. Bush said.

Laura Bush said she was "thrilled for Jenna and Henry and, of course, for George and me to have the grandchildren we've been really looking forward to."

In the months before Jenna's wedding four years ago, the first lady joked about potential names for their first grandchild

"George or Georgia ... Georgina. Georgette," she speculated.

And what will the new addition to the Bush clan call the former leader of the free world?

"Sir," the former president joked.

CNN's Kevin Liptak contributed to this report.

To Rhonda McCubbins... Do you really need to inject anti-Obama politics into everything? Obama is spending Christmas in Hawaii because that's where he's from and that's where what little family he has left lives. Isn't that what one is supposed to do at Christmas?

As for the anti-Bush posters... If you don't feel this is news, don't read the article. And you can hate on her father all your want, but to somehow blame Jenna or her child-to-be for her father's failures is just silly.

Why is this news? It's simple: CNN knows that crazy people on the left will go nuts and make all kinds of nasty comments, therefore driving traffic to the page. CNN is actually pretty smart because it clearly worked.

Why is this news? Who gives a c rap? She's not the first daughter of a former president to become pregnant! Must be a slow news day.

Lighten up. There are only 104 comments. I mean, after all, this woman isn't Sarah Palin (thank goodness)! Now that woman would definitely drive traffic!

Susan - You seem to be in-psuedo-utero: you are stuck so far up your own nether-regions, you do not know your 'left' from your 'right'.

I wish I could say i was surprised by the level of hatred of those who support Democrats. It's become a part of their every day life now, spewing hate at anything they don't agree with.

Big deal. Is she going to be the only woman to have a baby in 2013, or did it take her this long to figure how it's done

WHO CARES? If I never hear the name "Bush" again it will be too soon. This young woman's pregnancy, while clearly a joyous occasion for her family, is not newsworthy. W is no longer in office and what he and his family do is irrelevant to the majority of Americans. Rush Limbaugh and his ilk can report this kind of thing, then those who care will hear it and the rest of us will be spared.

GW's a little old to be becoming a father again. Still, he must be proud.

The bad news is another one of THOSE is coming into the world. The good news is that they have a new baby in the family to keep them distracted for awhile, and that it will choose a line of work outside of politics (hopefully).

    Yikes!

While I am no fan of W or his politics, the vitriol on here is disturbing.

I am pretty sure that if/when Chelsea Clinton gets pregnant it will be deemed news and reported on here, so why are people losing their mind over this?

I offer Jenna and Henry my congratulations and a non-partisan wish for a healthy pregnancy.

same reason that the princess is Great Britain having morning sickness is news... AND to take the pressure off bHo (AGAIN). Anytime they can get citizens talking about something other than recession, unemployment, taxes, obamacare, etc. it's a good thing for this administration.

Congratulations and best wishes to Jenna and her husband: I hope all goes well for them.

George W. Bush saying he won't change diapers; the kid will call him 'sir'; and, he'll be the one driving his grandchild around the ranch in the Ford 250: HA! Guys who talk like this are the ones who completely melt when holding that little baby, and he'll be changing diapers, burping, and rocking that little one in no time. I hope he shares with Henry.
