(CNN) - Susan Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations who drew heavy criticism from Republicans over her statements after the September attacks on a U.S. diplomatic mission, withdrew her name from consideration for secretary of state on Thursday.
In a letter to President Barack Obama, she said "the confirmation process would be lengthy, disruptive, and costly - to you and to our most pressing national and international priorities. That trade-off is simply not worth it to our country."
FULL STORY
Susan Rice did the right thing and for the right reasons. Class act. Why give the creaked tea pots a platform. She will do very well in the private sector.
GOP admin lied about WMD in Iraq and in the process killing thousands of American troops. We still need answers for these atrocities committed by the Republican Party. Bush had a personal vendetta with Saddam Hussein and used innocent Americans as pawns. So heartless.
She is bad! She turned he back to Rwandese the time of genocide, now she turned he back to Democratic Republic of Congo and People are rape and dying in the watch.
The f-tard republicans want Kerry for Secretary of State so they can get his Senate seat and that is the only reason the loser mccain, who knows nothing about foreign policy, and his loser tard rethugs went after Susan Rice, a great and awesome UN Representative of the United States of America.
1. John McCain thinks Sarah Palin is qualified to serve in the Executive Branch, but not Susan Rice?
2. McCain condemned Susan Rice for repeating flawed intel, yet praised Condoleeza Rice for the same thing about Iraq's WMDs?
I think it is time for ol' John McCain to retire. That would be, in his words, "a great day for America."
One of the main duties of the Secretary of State is to conduct negotiations with foreign countries relating to U.S. foreign affairs. Currently and in the foreseeble future most of these negotions are going to be in the middle east. Not judging whether it is right or wrong, but in these countries a female is considered less than a second class citizen. So is it condusive to dealing with these countries to send a person, female, that they have no respect for to to begin with, to deal with them on such serious issues.
Time for some of you ignorant racist people to go home from your cushy 9-5 office jobs.
There are so many sore loser Romney backers making comments that just reflect their ignorance and bias. You lost, get over it, the tea leaves are looking like more loses in the future due to the lack of vision by the GOP so I suggest you start taking meds.
The current GOP has nothing to offier to the American public but oppose everything including tax cuts for the middle class.GOP became a party of "NO" . It is a shame to exclude Dr. Ryce from being considered. She could have a lot to offer with her background and expirence.
I can't believe some of these red neck comments. I think with some of the attiudes expressed on this subjects and others, America is headxed strait to hell.
I don't blame her. Life is too short to put yourself thru this kind of outright hatred. So now, it will more likely be John Kerry. Fine. As long as Scott Brown doesn't get his Senate seat. I hope Deval Patrick appoints himself to Kerry's Senate seat. That would be great and a true upset for John McCain...
Well McCain,Graham got what they wanted, typical old white racist and don't say it isn't true because it been this way with republicans against our first black president since his inaugeration so why should Rice be different!!But theres a hitch in Kerry possibly being the next SOS so that leaves a seat open for a possible republican ,just what McCain,Graham wanted but will Brown who got trounced by Warren just recently take a chance again ,only time and who's competing against him will tell won't it!!That's republicans motive wanting Brown in there and its so obvious its pathedic isn't it!!!
funny thing is she is smarter than all you GOP dummies.. They just want Kerry to take her place.. But its not gonna happen... LMAO.. GOP is trying to play Chess once and for all.. its too late tho...
Such hatred for a woman who most Americans had never heard of before FOX News and McCain made her a household name is quite astonishing. Unless of course these same people watch Sunday political programming - which given the calibre of their comments is doubtful. Or perhaps their hate is fed to them via Hannity and Company?
And do you think McCain,Graham would be having this witch hunt if she were republican,I definitly think not!!!
This administration is embroiled in a big cover-up, and the president with his narcissism thought he could just let her slide into the Sec of State position, but not so fast. He only has himself and his lies to blame – if they didn't have anything to hide, this would have gone forward. Susan Rice is now a free woman. It's Hilary Clinton and Obama who are in the hot seat now.
If only all the rest of them would now resign.
@ freelance – good riddance. Let us now put a white male in that position now.
........................................................................................................................................................................................
What? A little upset that the white male is becoming extinct as a powerhouse in America? Don't worry; you'll get over it. There probably aren't any qualified t do the job.
Benghazi:
Ambassador was offered more security - he turned it down.
Libyans then begged Ambassador to take on more security - he turned them down too.
Ambassador was approached again about more security on the morning of his death - he turned them down again.
The ambassador is wholly responsible for his own death.
End of story.
.
I wouldn't have accepted her bowing out and then rammed her right down the conserves throat! Those people still haven't learned their lesson.
Responding to " CommonSense" who stated by saying " Minority or Not " , when speaking of Susan Rice withdrawing from consideration for Secretary of State , what does being " Minority " have to do with anything ? Umm... the world population of white people is only 9.8% and thas declining . By 2050 white people won't even be the majorityin America comparred to todays "minorities" so what the hell is "CommonSense" talking about ? Its high time people on this planet truely understand the factual reality concerning what people inhabit the Earth ....ummm white people are also declining in Europe and Russia , the most populous locations of white people.Honey , white people are DYING yo ! And the scientist know it.The reason is white women are the least fertile women on the globe and intermarriage children get generally browner not whiter. This is no cause for joy .... I'm juss laying it on the line for white people when they start talking COMMON SENSE TO ME !!
May be I am naive, but I do not understand why so many republicans are jumping all over Susan Rice and what she said on the TV talk shows. I heard her comments carefully and she did say "Based on the current information available" etc. etc. Now for arguments sake, let us say that she had said it was a terrorist attack. So what? Would it have changed the facts on ground that the Ambassador was dead?
I have heard the republican argument that Obama administration lied to cover up their failure in not COMPLETELY destroying Al Queda and that if they had admitted that this was a Al Queda attack, then it would have been a failure on their part and it might have cost President the election. Now even republicans know in their hears that this is such a strech that no one, probably even they do not believe it. I have never heard Obama administration claim that Al Queda has been destroyed, they have justifiably claimed that it has been severly wounded with the death of OBL and other leaders. But they have never claimed that it has been completely destroyed. No one in their right minds will do so.
So once again coming to original question – what difference would it have made whether it was a demonstration turned into an attack or a terrorist attack from the beginning. I can't see what Obama administration had to gain one way or the other by declaring what was known at the time. Can someone help me understand?
"FoxNews need to do what is right and allow their readers to comment. CNN is havig to bear that burden for them. Look at all these comments!"
CNN is quite proud of showcasing to the world it's new found friends. And it's subsequent ratings prove just what a winning endeavor it has been for CNN. There isn't a day goes by when CNN isn't literally jumping to get TeaPers attention. It's a bit hard for many of us to stomach, but we hang in there and hope for a better future.
David M, the difference between Bork and Rice is that what Kennedy said about Bork was true; and Bork has done nothing to disabuse us of his views. What the GOP have done to Rice - who might not be the best candidate for other reasons - was far different. They accused her of something she was not guilty of, and they knew it. But it doesn't matter, we're in a civil war and there is no going back. And the GOP and their rigid-minded adherents are responsible for it, to the great detriment of the United States.
I bet losing McCain and Graham will be shocked when President Obama picks someone other than Kerry. If this happens, they both should go somewhere and bury themselves
