Susan Rice withdraws from consideration as secretary of state

(CNN) - Susan Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations who drew heavy criticism from Republicans over her statements after the September attacks on a U.S. diplomatic mission, withdrew her name from consideration for secretary of state on Thursday.

In a letter to President Barack Obama, she said "the confirmation process would be lengthy, disruptive, and costly - to you and to our most pressing national and international priorities. That trade-off is simply not worth it to our country."

It's true that Rice had some issues in her past that would've been concerns (although Benghazi was not one of them), but the right wing attacks on Obama and Rice in these posts are pretty ridiculous and say far more about the posters themselves than they do about either Rice or Obama. In fact, they say virtually nothing about Rice and Obama. If ever I am tempted to think that the President (or any Democrat for that matter) should reach out in a bi-partisan spirit to the Republicans, I must remember what uncivil, ignorant, mean-spirited, unworthy, unpatriotic, jerks most of them are; and that they aren't interested in having a well-run country or trying to help the country or in doing what's best for the country. They are only interested in tearing down the President and anyone associated with him. Therefore, we may as well forget about trying to work together, and instead assume we are in a full-time war to the death with the GOP. Republican politics has poisoned the atmosphere in this country for the indefinite future. So, the Democrats should do what they have to do and forget about the Republicans - in fact declare war right back at them - and work with them only when something good can come of it. But I got news for you tea-party hypocrites of the right, we ain't going away and you're never going to take us out.

just you wait, the next time the repuglicans take the white house, they will appoint a hillbilly lapdog to the same position and the very repuglicans that were bashing rice will come praising and endorsing whoever that hillbilly is going to be!

Old McCain should feel proud, showing what hate and anger can do to a person. There was no reason for Rice to withdraw her name. I hate to see these partisian old men whine and cry and get their way because they cannot concede that people of color or genders other than white and male are capable of running this country. The best thing Arizona can do is get rid of their dead weight senator.

During the Bush administration there were 13 attacks on US embassies and consults. 67 people were killed in these attacks. And not once did the Demarcates attack the Bush administration the way the Republicans have attacked Obama administration. This is politics pure and simple, more gridlock.

It was not a fiasco until the GOP got a hold of it. Hammered and hammered and hammered and when nothing really turned up, they hammered somemore. Petty and pitiful group of losers and the GOP is no longer good for America.

Looks like Obama is already retreating. If he caves on the Fiscal cliffs to Republican demands we'll see Obama is an empty suit. Does he talk the talk? Will he stand with working class Americans or not?

All the right wing idiots are waiting for the Bongazi answers. Still waiting for the Rice answers to nuclear weapons in Iraq. Wondering about the answers to why Bush did not use the intel. he had Before the 9-11 attacks. Still waiting for when mission is accomplished like Bush said 10 yrs prematurely. Did the Bush admin. go to every dead soldiers family and explain what happened in Iraq or Afganistan. The right wing is yelling bloody Murder for the tragic death of 4 personell in a very instable place but not a tear for the 3000 died in Iraq for political reasons. Please get a life repugs. because this shock thing just doesnt jibe. If there was a white male repug in the white house not a peep.

I'm not fooled. I bet this was a condition to the Republicans Fiscal Cliff bargaining. "Withdrawing" her name saves face for all.

Hope she enjoyed taking it in the back end for Obama. Her career is ended so Obama could avoid one foreign policy issue before election that would not have decided the vote anyway.

I say she should have gone through the process. Answered every question on Benghazi. Though the Prez is not required to answer any questions on Benhazi, he ought to voluntarily answer questions by Congress and conservative media. He has had the most transparent White House ever! Ever. And the teachers in Detroit in unions are doing a great job too. After all, who needs to read? Eric Holder? The man never, ever, lied or hid behind Executive Privilege! Take Fast and Furious, for example. He has answered every question and has never hidden anything. He only claimed Exec Privilege because he had nothing to hide. Only people with something to hide don't use Exec Privilege. I also haven't had my meds today, either.

Of course her being a liberal fascist, lying about the murder of our ambassador and a racist had nothing to do with it.

The Benghazi criticisms are petty noise from Republicans and considering the previous Secretary of State named Rice, extreme hypocrisy. Nevertheless I remain wary of Susan Rice because of her financial holdings in the oil industry and a likely inability to deal rationally with the Keystone pipeline issue. We have an administration perfectly willing to have a foreign company practice eminent domain on our own citizens and declare land owners as trespassers on their own property in furtherance of environmental destruction.

good. time to get a white male for this post.
Why a white male? Why not another white female? Maybe an hispanic male or female? There are so many non-white male choices.

for McCain to be against the potential appointment is telling, a man who choose as his running mate Sarah Palin, a Hail Mary, which basically ended his campaign.....a sore loser with too hot a temper to be in any important position in Government, including the Senate.....better start rebuilding the backward Republican party, who only have about 2 years before they loose the majority in the House.....destroy America, through the President is their only goal ...

She was not willing to question the subject matter. She knew, as well as the whole administration and Clinton, that the attack was a coordinated effort by terrorists and went to five talk shows telling lies. The administration and Clinton dd as well. Joe Biden stated in his debate that "we did not know" . President Obama. Lied to the United Nations at least six times. He stated to CBS that he was aware that it was a terrorist act and CBS chose to keep that quiet. Even your staff refused to work on this story because you didn't want to hurt your guys chance of being re-elected and sent candy Crowley out to cover his butt during debates. Well, now we have a lying president, v.p., Secretary of State, ambassador to UN, plus countless others who kept the story under wraps because of the election. I can only hope that all the truth will come out and we can get to the bottom of this mess that left four Americans UN-necessarily dead by turning down their request for more security just one month prior. Shame on he administration and shame on you for keeping quiet about it. I hope that the tax increase for the wealthy hit you hard so you wake up to the problems that this administration has. Tell the news and quit commentating and aiding one side only.
