Susan Rice withdraws from consideration as secretary of state

(CNN) - Susan Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations who drew heavy criticism from Republicans over her statements after the September attacks on a U.S. diplomatic mission, withdrew her name from consideration for secretary of state on Thursday.

In a letter to President Barack Obama, she said "the confirmation process would be lengthy, disruptive, and costly - to you and to our most pressing national and international priorities. That trade-off is simply not worth it to our country."

She fell on the sword; taking the fatal blow on behalf of a President too indecisive to act, or too terrified to put a bullet into a fellow Muslim. Too bad; I believe she had the makings of an excellent Sec. of State. But you have to know "when" and "where" to draw the line. She fell for it. End of story

I am not so sure that Kerry would be the good choice, specially when him and his wife are very good friends with Assad Family...Good Luck

"All of you posters who feel that she "lied" to the American people: I want to know exactly how you protested when Bush/Cheney/Rice "Lied" about Iraq, causing over 160,000 deaths and wasting a trillion dollars. Where was your indignation then? Did you write letter to the editor? Did you call your congressmen? Protest in the streets?"

Agree, and still waiting for the rightwingnut response.

The hatred between the members of the two political parties, who are suppose to be representing the people of the United States, is debilitating our government. A great woman just was hurt by this hatred. What we must remember, this childish behavior (especially with those who serve in Congress) must stop or the consequences will exponentially paralyze this Country -then everyone will lose.

A win for the “regressative” wing of the GOP. How pathetic that we have now gone back to the days of McCarthyism.

That's too bad. Ms. Rice would have been a great successor to Hilliary Clinton. Oh well, I supposed the GOP morons are happy, especially that pathetic McCain. Don't nominate Kerry though, as I think that is what the GOP wants and they don't deserve to have it.

It amazes me how people can comment and make stupid, rude remarks without even considering the entire story. This is so NOT the "full story" as the link from the home page says. To read Dr. Rice's letter to the President go here She shows great character; more than those idiots accusing her and you people making idiotic comments here.

Sorry, Susan. But John McCain and his impotent henchmen (and a woman or two) will pay for this. McCain will go down in history for the Sarah Palin mess (he met with her for two half-hour sessions, then picked her to possibly be the world's #1 leader if something happened to him). He wil also go down in history for his unprofessional dealings with this Congress. How pitiful.

Folks, who Massachusetts sends to the Senate isn't Obama's problem to worry about.

And you really have to be stupid to think Scott Brown is going to get his seat. Did you see how badly he was beaten? MassDem isn't going to nominate another Martha Coakley. The seat is safe, so let's stop this foolish talk.

Could we get a better example of IOKIYAR? I mean, Condy Rice...another black woman with last name Rice...lied her silly face off in the MSM when she went around claiming that Iraq had WMDs, but the GOP found it perfectly acceptable. The only difference there was that she was a GOPer and thousands of people died BECAUSE OF her lies. Here, Susan Rice is a Dem accused of lying AFTER 4 people died...not causing their deaths...and the GOP/Teatrolls and MSM all but pilloried her. Freekin ridiculous.

Kerry is not an option. Why would Obama give the GOP the satisfaction of having a senate seat possibly going to Scott Brown? McCain isn't going to win anything out of this deal, and America has been deprived of a worthy choice.

Looks like we may avert the fiscal cliff after all. Here's a give on one side...I expect one on the other soon to follow. LOL...good government is about making the other side look as bad as it can so in the end they can get things done by helping the other side not look so bad. Thus we have....drum roll....fiscal cliffs and other calamities that have nothing to do with you and I except for how we perceive things. You got to have sense of humor to keep breathing.

They kissed Former CIA Director Petraus's behind when he was on Capitol Hill. He is to blame for what happened not Susan Rice. The CIA should have known what was going on but I guess Petraus had other things on his mind!!!!

McCain, Graham, Ayotte, Collins and all the other GOP/TP Fascists who bullied Rice out of consideration should be put on notice: your time is up! Whether in 2014 or 2016, your time is up and you'll be voted out! In the meantime, I think they should politically be made to pay for their bullying! Obama, Reid, Pelosi and the Dems should grow a pair and let these three (McCain especially) PAY! This is a total disgrace! And I wouldn't select Kerry just to allow Brown to run again.

Susan Rice.......What a waste of an articulate, gracious, well informed individual who would have been an excellent choice for Secretary of State. GOP, you may think you have won on the Secretary of State issue but if you think Scott Brown is on his way back to the Senate....think again. An INDEPENDENT Mass voter.
