(CNN) - A somber President Barack Obama said Friday that "we've endured too many of these tragedies in the past few years" in reference to the Connecticut school shooting.
Wiping away tears and pausing to collect himself, Obama spoke of "beautiful little children" killed in the shooting, saying: "Our hearts are broken today."
He said the children killed in Connecticut, along with children killed in other tragedies, "are our children," and the nation must come together to prevent such incidents "regardless of the politics."

Pray for the families for they will need all of their strength during this sad time....
What horrible horrible tragedy! I'm just sick to my stomach.............
Please, Gun Control NOW! Just sick to death of hearing "guns don't kill people, people kill people." While this may be true on some level, it is also true that alot of people would not be in their graves if there was meaningful gun controll.
sorryfully as you speak Mr President there is another wackjob out there in our nation with a gun planning to do the exact same thing, be it at a school, mall, movie house, or even place of worship. Yes people should have the right to own firearms.....people NOT in their right minds though should not have that right. People use the argument that if a mass killer were to run over people with a truck would we ban all trucks? No, but we would ban insane people from driving them.
Here's a Second Amendment compromise; any American that would like a gun gets a single shot musket like the Minutemen used during the Revolution.
Well, The President has obviously been ripped by this and you can be sure he is going to do something on other PTOUS has ever done and that is put a stop to the gun violence one and for all. Like he said " Politics ? " thats not going to get in his way anymore. Get ready all you people who charish your assult guns because they soon are going to be HISTORY !
This is just awful! They were just little ones. This is a sad day in America. Some way, some how, I hope the parents, siblings, , other family members, and their little friends find the strength and comfort to make it through the rough times ahead; and eventually find peace.
So true Mr. President. My heart goes out to all the people affected by this senseless tragedy. Those poor, innocent little angels whose lives had barely started. I don't mean to seem narcissistic but this has completely ruined my day. I can barely work and I have been crying nonstop. I pray the families have the strength to endure the days ahead. I also pray for the family of the shooter, after all their mother was among the deceased.
R. I. P. little angels.
insecurity in usa! Its too painful. The Govt must end these sch shootings for goood.
i lost my son to a senseless homicidal act before he turned 19. in 2000.2-trials 1 plea bargain a hung jury
followed by an equally strange acquittal and no closure.Still my heart aches to see my son once again.Time does
not heal all wounds. If it were not for the Love of my Heavenly Father to comfort me,and the promise of Jesus for the future for all those who are HIS.i would not have made it through.Vengeance belongs to the LORD...And He says,"i will repay"
may we take this tragedy as a clarion call to awaken to repentance.love for GOD and forgiveness and walk in love and forgiveness toward others as well. Please examine your heart.do not let bitterness rule...
To the NRA – anybody and everybody can get a gun now, why would more guns (gasoline) be good? One reason only – because it means more profit for corporations that make and distribute guns. For some people it's all about the money.
Grieving with you Mr. President and praying for the families of the victims of this horrible tragedy.
Thank you . . . thank you Mr. President for your words of consolation and condolences for the families of those affected by this tragedy in Connecticut.
We are Praying for the families, friends, community and our country during this devastating tradegy.
Are we a nut nation or nation of nuts???? what is going on???? we hear about a mass shooting at least once or twice a week now. this one is being the second one where someone goes after his own parent and kill other innocent people (Children in this case) in less than 2 weeks. what in God's nme is happening to us????? enough with the politics and just ban guns. we do not need guns. people with GUNS kill people. people without guns can only hurt NOT kill one or two or three at the most. ENOUGH is ENOUGH
My President continues to show the world he truly and deeply cares about all Americans (even the ones who HATE him). Such a good man he is. Thank you Mr. President for showing the world that all American's are not senseless.
Horrific ... the fact that the NRA proclaims itself to be the protector of our 2nd Amendment rights is laughable. What are they going to say this time - that if some of those kids in the classroom were packing .... ? GMAB. All the NRA is doing is protecting what under any other name woudl be called terrorists.
my sincere condolences to the bereaved – I agree, something must be done – it's happening more often – it seems like. Makes a person wonder what type of Parents the so called "shooter" have, or had. The thing that comes to my mind is this : How were those type of people "Brought Up" ?? Makes you wonder what type of mentality the PARENTS had. Did they BOTH work ? Did they Teach them right from wrong ? Were they THERE, when the kid came home from School every evening ? I mean, doesn't it beg those type of Questions ?? It's like : IF a bank Robber keeps on robbing banks, and ends up robbing 20 or 30 banks, ( before he finally gets caught) what type of PARENTS did that Bank Robber have ? Was he brought up by One Parent ? Or two parents ? I can go on & on.
it's a sad day for this country, and a sad day for those families.
As a psychologist, I empathize with the whole extended families and close friends of the innocent children. They were victims of decaying cultural value collateral damage. To watch our POTUS stand up there - crying like a helpless man rather than strong political leader– was nausiating. Make no mistake, the people close to the children will grieve for a very long time - they are in shock, they will get angry and blame God (perhaps deny His existence), go into deep depression then eventaully heal and move on - there will be speeches and "what should have's," "what will be's," and then - once again - "what should have beens." It's the same familiar cycle of deteriorating values symptomatic of a desensitized culture. Obama will not find the sympathy he seeks from the "mean old grand party." Susan Rice deserved what she did - and expenditures still need to be heavily cut to balance the budget. Benghai will be investigated in full force. Hillary Clinton wil be grilled. We will see a POTUS that works with Congress and Supreme Court to help steer the pandemic wave of deteriorating values from falling off the "cultural cliff" -time for engaging in a "War on Sociopathic Culture."
Guns legislation will not solve the problem -- there are knives, cars, trucks, poison gas, drugs, rocks, stones, bricks, bats, sling shots, hammers, etc. -- there are a thousand and one ways to mass kill people. Hijack an 18-wheeler and drive it 150 MPH into a school.
you can dry those tears now, Obama
