Palin bashes Time magazine's 'Person of the Year'

(CNN) - Sarah Palin, who's been listed twice as one of Time Magazine's "100 Most Influential People," is taking issue with the publication's decision to name President Barack Obama as its "Person of the Year."

Poking fun at herself, the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee said the magazine lacks a certain degree of relevancy.

"Time magazine, I think there's some irrelevancy there to tell you the truth. I mean consider their list of the most influential people in the country and in the world. Some who have made that list? Yours truly. That oughta tell ya something right there regarding the credence we should give Time magazine and their list of people," she said Wednesday on Fox News.

Managing editor Richard Stengel wrote Obama deserved the recognition because he "forged a new majority, turned weakness into opportunity and sought, amid great adversity, to create a more perfect union."

But Palin, who along with 2008 GOP presidential nominee Sen. John McCain, lost to the Democratic presidential ticket four years ago, said "those are some silly words chosen to describe Barack Obama."

"When I first heard that, the first thing that popped in my mind was: What the heck has he done? Really, what has he done, except drive us over a fiscal cliff," she said. "What has he done to unify and make our nation a more perfect union? For the life of me, I don't know."

The former Alaska governor was chosen as one of the magazine's most influential people in 2009 and held a top spot on the same list in 2010. She was also considered one of four runners-up for "Person of the Year" in 2008, when Obama first received the title, and as someone "who mattered" in 2010.

She argued that "the path towards a perfect union is our Constitution" but said Obama "sees it as a charger of negatives" that needs serious changes.

Palin stoked speculation for much of 2011 as she considered a presidential bid but ultimately decided to stay out of the running. She largely stayed out of the presidential race, instead choosing to campaign for conservative Senate candidates in GOP primary battles.

Just like the Westboro Baptist Church, Ms. Palin will not go away as long as the media keeps paying attention.

All you republicans bashing President Obama are pathetic. The election wasn't even close and you guys can't handle defeat. As for Sarah Palin...what a joke she is! She is the dumbest politician in history, so who cares what she has to say. Our President Barack Obama will go down as one of the best Presidents in history.

When I open my front door in the morning, there is no reporter with a microphone asking me my opinion. That should be the case with Ms. Palin. The last time I said something worth reporting was on election day and I used my ballot as a sound bite. Ms. Palin is now merely a supporter of the minority and even her party had the good sense not to include her in their recent attempt to wrest power from a group of people who are struggling to fix what her party broke. In no way should we validate anything coming from her as representative of anything useful. Let's let her fade into the insignificance her opionions deserve.

It is unfortunate that the media continues to give Palin a forum. Palin is ignorant, misinformed and wholly disengaged from the realities of life in these United States. I wholeheartedly wish she would go away and that the media would stop reporting her nonsensical blather.

The jokes on Sarah, she's been "spoofed" two times by Times Magazine to name a magazine she reads because in 2008 in her interview she couldn't name one, now we know she does read one. I couldn't have thought of a better April Fools Joke.

If you read that again – "Time magazine, I think there's some irrelevancy there to tell you the truth. I mean consider their list of the most influential people in the country and in the world. Some who have made that list? Yours truly. "

She admits her own irrelevancy, making that statement the most intelligent thing she has ever said.

Time's "Person of the Year" designation is a statement of who (or, sometimes, what) had the greatest influence on world events & the news that year in their opinion. It is not an award or some sort of stamp of approval for the person's actions. Even Hitler has been their person of the year in the past. No matter what you think of Mr Obama, he has made a huge impact on world events this past year.

"i agree with her wjhat has he done? the only reason he won a second term is because alot of people stayed home & did not vote"

What makes you think that these "lazy" people who didn't vote would have voted for Romney? I thought the republicans believe that lazy people are democrats?

I can point out one thing that President Obama has done – he has made ½ Governor Palin a very wealthy person. As long as the far-right insist that willful ignorance and being consumed with bigoted hatred are virtues (i.e. as long as President Obama is in the spotlight) they will always need a poster child for their point of view. But she need not worry, even after President Obama has departed the stage, there will always be a healthy number of disciplined, driven and intelligent leaders that make the far-right feel inferior. She is set for life!

Know how you can tell when a Palin doesn't read? She is not aware that Time Magazine chooses its "Person of the Year" by the number of times that person has been written about in Time Magazine. It has nothing to do with relevance or significance. I think she learns about current events through graphic novels and comic strips.
