Obama to attend Hawaii memorial service for Inouye

(CNN) - President Obama will attend the final memorial service for the late Sen. Daniel Inouye of Hawaii on Sunday, the White House announced.

The service will take place at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. Among those buried there are 32 Medal of Honor recipients and at least one former senator.

Obama is in Hawaii for a short Christmas holiday.

Inouye died Monday at age 88 of respiratory complications. He was the second-longest serving senator in U.S. history and had represented Hawaii in Washington every year since it became a state.

The president spoke at Inouye's memorial service at the National Cathedral on Friday, remembering the long-time senator as his own "earliest political inspiration" as a child in Hawaii.

"We remember a man who inspired all of us with his courage and moved us with his compassion, that inspired us with his integrity and who taught so many of us, including a young boy growing up in Hawaii, that America has a place for everyone," Obama said.

Inouye laid in state in the Capitol on Thursday.

His fellow Hawaii lawmaker, Sen. Daniel Akaka, spoke on Inouye's legacy earlier in the week.

"Tomorrow will be the first day since Hawaii became a state in 1959 that Dan Inouye will not be representing us in Congress," he said. "Every child born in Hawaii will learn of Dan Inouye, a man who changed the islands forever."

Of course the President will go to his home state of Hawaii for winter break and while there go to the funeral services of a highly respected US Senator. And of course the right wing-fringe media industry will gnash their yellow teeth and proclaim it's some plot that should be feared by all and falsely claim that no President has ever done such an outrageous thing or spent so much money.
Which is just one more of the endless GOP lies meant to promote fear and distrust amongst the American people.

I hope the Republicans love it that the President is going to his home state of Hawaii. Hope the birthers like Willard and Trump are eating their hearts out. Let the party of Fox News, the conspiracy theory nuts like Glenn Beck, the pentecostal nut Sarah Palin, the Neocon nuts, the corrupt Wall Street bonus kings, and the whole Christian Right eat their guts out. Like I said the planet kolob awaits you.

Secondly, Obama's home state is not Hawaii. His home state is Illinois. His home is there not Hawaii.

Hope our pres.and his family have a nice break-they deserve it. Hope everyone has a blessed Christmas and remembers why we celebrate. That includes all the rude Reps. who can't seem to be happy very often about anything-such a waste of life.

A very Merry Christmas to the Obama family and R.I.P. to Senator Inouye. To the haters who can't stand that "going home for Christmas" means Hawaii to the President – kick rocks. The majority of Americans voted to give him a chance to finish bringing this country back from the ruin of the 8 years prior to his election. Now the rest of you can just stop it with the moaning an whining. Oh, by the way, Merry Christmas John McCain, MIttens Romney, Carl Rove and the rest of you. 🙂

Daniel Inouye served out country and the state of Hawaii with distinction and he was a a hero in world war 2. I would expect the President of the United States to attend his funeral especially since he was from hawaii

To the haters. It's the President's home state and Presidents travel to their home stay for vacations.
That it coincides with the funeral of Senator Innouye is even better because what would the repugs say about the President traveling "out of season" to his home state.
Merry Christmas to everyone and mostly the 98%.
