Now or later, a fiscal cliff deal fixes a self-inflicted problem
Washington (CNN) - Sometime in the next 10 days, a fiscal cliff agreement is likely.
It almost certainly won't be the grand bargain sought by President Barack Obama and House Speaker John Boehner that addresses the nation's chronic federal deficits and debt.

The Tea Party is destructive to our politics. Pres. Obama and Spkr. Boehner had a grand deal some 18 months ago, and this group in the House rejected it. Last week, they apparently rejected a plan from GOP leadership because it didn't go far enough in their view.
This is why religion and politics do not mix well, most especially not in a Democracy. When compromising becomes a moral sin, then there is no room left for compromise of any kind. This is what the right wing has become in this country.

If the same people who elected President Obama the first time showed up for the 2010 midterm elections, WE WOULDN'T BE GOING THROUGH THIS RIGHT NOW!
But Noooooooo! We slept during the 2010 midterm and the Republicans took The House!
And since the Republican took The House they have done nothing but read the Constitution out loud and create this stupid freaking "fiscal cliff"!

This fiscal cliff is our consequence. This fiscal cliff is the result of our failure to show up at the polls!
The last time Republicans were in charge we had a recession....This time (with even less power) The Republicans are taking us toward a recession!
Maybe if the Republicans mess over us again...we will have learned our lesson. As a people, we can be quite dense

I believe, the plan is , + always was, to go over the "Cliff"! Then Mr. Obama can blame the Republicans, which suits his political agenda, and he'll have lots more $$ to spend!! – @Marita.
I am so disgusted with our government. They all need to get their butts back to the White House and do their job and quit playing politics. And shame on Obama for his expensive vacation, I bet if his bank account was overdrawn and he had to borrow his money at 40 cents on the dollar he would not have gone. But he loves to spend tax payers money like it is going out of style. I wish Americans could put our tax money into an escrow account because of the gross neglect of duties in Washington. We should be able to put it into an escrow account until a government is established that is both by the people and for the people.
It was clear from Obama's opening position on the issue he had no intention of reaching an agreement. Double the amount of the tax increases (not even counting all the Obamacare tax increases) and INCREASE spending, an dthen talk about cuts "later" (aka never). It was as big a joke as his budget submissions that haven't gotten a single Democrat vote, let alone Republican vote, for 3 years.
It is clear that Obama is willing to throw the country into fiscal turmoil for political and leftist ideological reasons. If it isn't clear to everybody at this point he is a danger to this country, then you are totally a koolaide drinker.
It's hard to soar with eagles when you fly with a bunch of turkeys.

There is a major flaw with your hypothesis. It was the Tea Party Republicans in the House who rejected the multi-trillion dollar deal worked by their supposed leader, Spkr Boehner. It was the Tea Party Republicans in the House who came up with the legislation that has the sequester framework built into it...and offered nothing else except default on our national debt.
