Without cliff vote, some lawmakers make other plans for New Year's Eve
Washington (CNN) - After House leaders decided to adjourn until Tuesday without a fiscal cliff deal, House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy advised members to stay near the Capitol in case a vote comes up.
It's unusual that members of Congress are in Washington on New Year's Eve; the last time it happened was in 1995. Members generally spend the holiday far away from the halls of the Capitol.
So what are some House lawmakers doing in Washington on the last night of 2012? (And how close are they really staying to the office?)

Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff of California: "I am going to see 'Lincoln' with a couple colleagues. Seems to be fitting time to see it."
Democratic Rep. Eliot Engel of New York: "Just calling my wife to see if she was up to go out to eat. She said we will talk about it. She is thrilled to be here on New Years Eve. We just had a party, thrown by Nancy Pelosi, from 4 to 6 at a restaurant on the hill. John Barrow of Georgia is trying to corral people to his house for a party. Nancy Pelosi is going to a party at the National Archives. So we have lots of options."
Republican Rep. Tom Rooney of Florida: "Going back to my office to watch CNN with (Rep.) Bob Dold."<a
Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio (if he has his way): "Have a three dog night cinema with our three rescue dogs." But his wife, who was nearby, said the couple was on a few VIP lists for parties downtown.
Democratic Rep. Donald Payne of New Jersey: "Well I am probably just going to go and relax. My family is up in New Jersey so I am here alone. I am going to do what I would have normally done with them."
Democratic Rep. Frederica Wilson of Florida: "I am going to see the Emancipation Proclamation event this evening.

Maybe they need to find the Movie, THE LAST TRAIN FROM GUN HILL. Or just go to Hawaii and play some Golf.
Why not work all night? Members of the military aren't taking the night off from protecting us. Why don't these congressmen power through the night until they get something done. Why not start cutting their pay first? I bet that'd create a bit more urgency in getting something done.
