Boehner's White House F-bomb

(CNN) - For all the stalemate in the fiscal cliff negotiations, there were some heated moments, too.

A Democratic source familiar with one particular exchange told CNN that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell were sitting on a sofa in the White House.

House Speaker John Boehner breezed in and his first words to Reid were "Go f*** yourself."

Boehner's comment came after Reid took to the Senate floor on Thursday and characterized the House speaker's handling of his chamber as a "dictatorship."

Reid responded to Boehner's confrontational tone by laughing, the Democratic source said, though a GOP source who was there said he didn't think Reid was all that happy.

"The exchange continued, and it didn't get any better for Reid," the GOP source said.

Boehner's office had no comment on the exchange when asked about it Wednesday.

Both men described the moment to members of their caucus.

The exchange happened at the White House on Friday - the day the four Capitol Hill leaders, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi - met with President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.

On Wednesday, after news of the comment emerged, Reid said on the Senate floor that "unlike others behind us in this Capitol, I'm not going to stoop to name calling. I just want people to work and do what they need to do." Politico first reported Boehner's comment.

Hours after the meeting on Friday, he described it as "constructive."

"There was not a lot of hilarity in the meeting, everyone knows how important it is," Reid said. "It was a very serious meeting and it took an extended period of time."

  2. huh?

i'm not too savy in politics and finance...so, i need help... I read something to the tune of 600 billion in tax revenue... and 15 billion in spending cuts... is that true? If so, shouldn't there be more spending cuts? I mean, if I understand the concept of a debt ceiling, we can't take on more debt, so, how do we get more money if 615 billion is the total we could clear? shouldn't there be like 600 billion in tax revenue... and 600 billion in spending cuts?

Cursing is just another example of the angry repubhlican. The republicans don't seem to appreciate that their image is that of angry, bloated, hateful, rich men who won't accept that its not the 1950s any more. If this recent election has proven anything its that the GOP is dead and will need to reinvent itself. I'm so thankful that we have an intelligent man in the White House that has still been able to get things done despite the disgusting opposition of the GOP.

@JPX...you need to get your facts straight. The top 10% of earners pay the majority of taxes.

As for the party of NO...you were just handed 60 billion a year in revenue, plus added revenue from the SS tax. When your wonderful President SPENDS that too, who will you blame then? Oh yeah, the Bush era and Repubs because you don't care he is spending like a thief with someone elses credit card.

The unfiltered discussions should have been televised. We have the right to know what our leaders are really thinking, not just what thye decide we need to know.

Hey, Larry. Rudy NYC had a fantastic comment over the weekend on this dictatorship stuff. Maybe we can convince him to re-post his comment to me. It was hilarious.
"You have not been keeping up with right wing conspiracy theories. There is a rapidly growing sentiment on the extreme right that Pres. Obama will seek a third term by declaring himself dictator. Seriously. There are web sites, political action groups, and companies setting themselves up to thwart this threat to freedumb."

After Biden's! He made a similar comment and it was a joke to you liberals.....

When did Joe Biden tell someone to go * themselves? You're confusing the current VP with the previous VP who shouted it to Patrick Leahy on the floor of the senate – and it was a joke to you wingnuts......

Anyone who thought the Tan Man was a shadow of previous speakers must have just arrived on Earth. Tan Man has been p*ssing in his pants from the first day from fear of his own caucus. For really good expletives deleted, keep track of Peter King and the other northeastern republicans who appear to be surprised to find that their republican compatriots could not care less if all of their constituents freeze to death. Hilarious!

No big news here. It just reflects the way Americans are in general these days: Lack of civility, lack of mutual respect, arrogance, non-cooperation, us-vs-them mentality, political immaturity. You name it, all the trappings of a devolving banana republic.

I wish I could have been there and told both of them the same thing. They haven't accomplished jack. Any idea that Obama's second term would be anything like Clinton's second term has gone up in smoke! Time for these people to get off the pot and really get something done. I don't care if you are a Democrate or Republican, you should be fet up with Congress and its time to let them know.

I like it that Boehner told him off....Reid is the biggest bully and has no clue what the hell he is doing....The liberals just keep spending and taxing....Soon America the wealthy will run out of money to give the government and run out of money to create new business which creates jobs....Then you will be standing there with your thumb up your A%& wondering what happened..... One question! Could you run your household the way congress runs the nation? Not a chance..You would be bankrupt in 90 days....
