Can a $1 trillion coin end debt ceiling crisis?

(CNNMoney) - What if the threat of a voluntary default by the United States could be erased by simply turning one tiny scrap of platinum into a coin?

That's right. No debt ceiling problem. No bickering in Congress. No market jitters. The only thing needed is for the Treasury Department to mint a platinum coin with a face value of $1 trillion.

Well that's pretty much how Bush and Cheney ran things for 8 years...

Nation needs to CLOSELY WATCH "HOSPITAL-GREED". Simple procedures they are charging 1000/ dollars where a PA can do for 130/.. This nation is traveling with G-R-E-E-D, we all have to wait till real law kicks in on Jan 1st 2014.

No no no...he question is not "whose face would go on it?"

It should be stamped with the image of a document bearing the bill identification numbers for the Bush tax cuts and say in big bold letters "IN GREED WE TRUST."

Rather than RECYCLE a nonsensical story from July/ August 2011, a "free press" serving the public interest would EDUCATE the citizentry on two key points

1.) Despite the GOP Lying Machine, Mr. Obama isn`t the one doing the spending. It`s the CONGRESS. Every time a Republican politicians says this, the reporter/ journalist has a DUTY to correct them no matter how embarassing it maybe to the GOP. The media can`t keep it`s vaunted 1st Ammendment privaledges if it is an accessory in purposeful misrepresentation.

2.) That the Constituttion, via the 14th Ammendment IS CLEAR [no wishy-washy speak media industry]. The President has the executive responsibility & power to ensure the full faith & credit of the United States is not diminished. We might as well circumvent all the IMPEACHMENTtalk now that the TeaPublicans are certain to threaten.

The PRESS can perform a public service by premptively bringing clarity on these two points.

I like the 14th Amendment approach. The Supreme Court can decide the issue. Before the Court decides the issue, the Republican base will find out that a default means that the government cannot honor existing obligations, including Social Security, because it cannot write any checks. Then the Republican Party will really be dead in 2014.

Isn't it funny how Bush,Cheneys policies went unobstructed for 8 years and now all hell breaks loose..Bush never balanced a budget and if he did it was done illegally because of so many unfunded programs as wars,Medicare ,tax breaks with no matching revenues which really put us in the negetive colume but like Cheney once said deficets don't matter do they!!Now 12 years later we're still fighting the same debt with accured interest because like said before nothing in revenue was there to pay off the prime ,just the interest if they could and republicans in both houses who voted this deal in being in majority never fixed a thing just making it worse..So to all you in denile I hope for Gods sake you do better balancing your personal households or you'd be out in the streets with just the cloths on your back..Remember Hoovers Great Depression and 12 years to fix that economic catastrophe up plus your business man in Bush who did a number on us as well before leaving..I'll never forgive republicans because they're ignorent ,obdtructionists who can't see past their wallets, the ones that corporate America keeps filling with lobbyist money but then again that's another gran story isn't it!!

It makes a lot of sense because if you combine the paid salaries of those in Washington, I bet it equals $1 trillion of the debt.
