(CNN) - The former Arizona congresswoman who survived a mass shooting in her district roughly two years ago paid a visit Friday to Newtown, Connecticut, where last month a gunman killed 27 people and himself in one of the deadliest mass shootings in U.S. history.
Gabrielle Giffords made the trip with her husband, Mark Kelly. The couple met with local and state leaders to discuss gun control legislation, mental health identification and treatment, and "concerns for the erosion of our societal values such that we are increasingly desensitized to violence," according to Newtown First Selectman Pat Llodra.

A nine year old girl was killed in the Giffords attack. That should have galvanized the nation. I hope some of the parents of the Newtown victims are willing to lend their children`s images and voices and hope & dreams to a TEN YEAR long campaign to remind us of what was lost by this senseless act of gun carnage.
Imagine the voice over that says, " My name is Shannon. Today would be my 12th birthday if only America didn"t allow guns to proliferate everywhere and allow high capacity ammunition clips to outgun even the police. Hopefully I`l be among the last children to die by the barrel of an assault weapon".
Imagine how powerful and persistant that imagery would be as we track the recitals, proms, bar mitzvahs, merit badge awards, little league football championships, etc. that will never be expirienced.
We love you Gabby. You are truly an inspiration.
God bless Newtown and Gabby.
Gun-Control Law needs to be passed.
Mrs.Giffords looks great and will be a galvanizing voice for more strengent gun control nomatter what the NRA and their gun lobbyists say..She's one of a few that's survived and can tell people what's its like to suffer between life and death and convince people that semi auto guns, rifles aren't to be allowed without proper psychological testing and more proven means of back ground checks..Gun laws are too lenient and gun manufacturers know it so its got to stop.If one of these NRA corporate members or manufacturers relatives were killed or seriously injured it'd be different wouldn't it people, again NRA put yourselves in Mrs Giffords place, but your scared too because you know I'm right, just won't say it won't yah!!
