NRA airs new TV ad criticizing Obama on eve of White House gun announcement
Washington (CNN) - The National Rifle Association released a new television commercial Tuesday night charging President Barack Obama of hypocrisy for being "skeptical" about placing armed guards at schools, while his own two daughters are protected by the U.S. Secret Service.
"Are the president's kids more important than yours?" a narrator says in the 30 second ad. "Then why is he skeptical about putting armed security in our schools, when his kids are protected by armed guards at their school."

The commercial is running on the Sportsman Channel, a cable network focused on outdoors programming such as hunting and fishing. It is also posted on a dedicated web site "Stand and Fight."
On Wednesday, Obama is set to unveil a new set of proposals that would place very tough restrictions on the ownership and sale of firearms.
In the ad, the narrator only mentions Obama by name, but it also features images of Vice President Joe Biden, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and NBC anchor David Gregory. Bloomberg is an influential voice in favor of stricter gun laws and has dipped into his personal fortune to help fund a lobby campaign, and Feinstein, a California Democrat, is helping spearhead a congressional effort to enforce tougher gun laws.
Gregory questioned NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre in a December interview about the effectiveness of the organization's proposal to put armed guards in schools. After the interview, the NRA and conservative media outlets noted that Gregory's children attended the same school as Obama's daughters and the school has a security department.
"Mr. Obama demands the wealthy pay their fair share of taxes," the narrator says. "But he is just another elitist hypocrite when it comes to a fair share of security. Protection for their kids and gun-free zones for ours."
The introduction of Obama's children into the gun debate further demonstrates the high stakes in this very complicated and emotional issue about how to weigh Second Amendment rights with the safety of citizens following several high profile killings, including the recent massacre of 20 children and six educators at a Newtown, Connecticut elementary school.
As advocates for new gun restrictions pledge to pressure Congress to pass new laws, the NRA and other like-minded gun rights groups and conservative organizations have said they will fight any changes to the current gun laws.
"Stand and fight sums up what Americans need to do to preserve our Second Amendment freedom," NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam told CNN.
The NRA is not ruling out expanding the buy to air the commercial elsewhere.
The group, which had an existing partnership with the Sportsman Channel, has added an NRA hosted daily weekday program to the network's lineup.

The NRA would destroy America if it would lead to selling more guns to fight a Civil War. They don't care about safety, etc. They care about selling guns, scaring people into wanting guns, misleading people into thinking crooks are going to give you time to get your gun out before shooting you, etc. I don't trust a single word they spin out of their greedy mouths anymore than GOP President George H W Bush did when he wrote that open letter of resignation from the NRA.
This is basically the best thing to have happened to gun control supporters around the country. It means the NRA is really worried this time. It means the NRA has decided to see how much they can shore up their hard core supporters and have basically conceded that they will lose the rest of the country. It is an unwritten rule that no party, no group, no elected leader talks about the children of those elected to serve in this manner. That includes the armed forces and political sector. This may help the NRA get membership dues but will not help their cause. The NRA has shown their hand this time. They know they have lost the majority of America.
How sensitive for the families of the mass killing victims.
I guess the rights of gun owners outweigh the rights of school children.
Thats low even for the NRA. How many presidents have been have been targeted or shot. They do the job with a bullseye on their back. It doesnt matter what party, They and their family deserve the protection, from idiots with guns! Only one of which was mentally ill.

NRA is the biggest hypocrite of all! They could care less about the security of children or the rest of Americans for that matter. All that matters is their guns. And they hide behind the Second Amendment pretending sanctimony in it and their reinterpretation of it to mean something beyond what it did mean. I'm sure the Founding Fathers are turning in their graves to think what they wrote would come to mean the freedom to own an AR-15.
and what ever happened to the "regulated militia" part? Oh, pfffft!!!! They forget ALL about that part! Gun owners were expected to serve in a militia as a part of the original states not having a standing army.
And I don't recall ever voting the NRA to any elected office. And I don't recall they ever ran for one. WHY do they have so much power? They're not Congress or the President! They don't represent Americans in any elected capacity. They don't represent Americans. They represent one thing and one thing only: guns.
People who are either deranged, mentally unbalanced, former felons, gang members, or extremists are the ones to have gun control for not responsible gun owners. Taking away the right to bear arms from responsible citizens will start a major conflict with most Americans. Mr. President you are treading on very thin ice if you tamper with the second amendment. As to schools security, continue with safety training as a intruder is on a campus, have drills as to prevent shooting and defuse the situation. This seems to work much like police and military do in simulations. Put in place meetings with a bully and their victim right after an incident happens including parents. Head off the situation quickly.

Hmm...so by the same logic, since the POTUS and all ex-POTUSes are protected by armed guards, ALL people/homes in the US should be offered protection by armed guards.

Wheres the tears for those innocent men, women, and children killed on foreign soil? Is a human being any different in any other part of the world?

They can say all they want, but on another post no one has given a valid reason for having assault weapons and or magazines having more than 10 rounds in them. All for the second amendment, but folks there is no real reason to have assault weapons or high volume mag's other than military, swatt teams etc . these type of weapons have no place in just anyone's hands. you can own guns and have the right to bare arms, That doesn't mean assault weapons........
Well, let's see. He is the President of the United States and there are terrorists and crackpots all over the place. I really don't think his assassination or his kids would be a random act of violence. His children stand a much greater probability of being targeted. If the NRA chieftains don't believe that than become the President and take out more insurance.
Obama should focus on his job, which is fixing the economy and projecting strength to the rest of the international community. The NRA needs to realize that their reasoning that keeping assault rifles for personal defense is no longer valid. In 1776 a thousand people with muskets and a valid arguement may have been able to make a point. In 2012 a thousand people with assault rifles would get slaughtered by air raids and tank fire. Point being that the idea that we are still able to defend ourselves from tyranny if we had to is inconcievable currently anyway. Removing hand guns is a different story. The criminal market for illegal weapons is massive. You people who believe that urban gangs get their assault rifles from gun stores are clueless. The vast majority of pot in socal doesnt come from legal manufacturers. Like most drugs, the majority is smuggled in from mexico via the cartels and resold. Those same major urban gangs get their income to buy weapons from primarily drug sales. Most cartels deal in arms too. Point being that eliminating assault rifles may eliminate school shootings but not violent crime in Americas cities due to the fact that the same mafias are connected in both deals and operate outside US legal oversight

This is the most disgusting thing I have ever seen the NRA do. We shouldn't have to endure mass shootings every 3-4 months just so a minority of Americans can shoot guns for fun.
The NRA guy just wants to sell more guns. He got a little overzealous with assault weapons though. Normal people do not need assault weapons laying around. If someone breaks into your house, a double tap with a .45 pistol will do just fine. If you need an assault rifle to protect you, then you should not own a gun period. The NRA got overzealous with gun sales and it came back to bite them. Now the spokesperson says we should arm all of the schools because he wants to sell more guns; however, sharing your position in the midst of what just happened in Connecticut is also going to come back and bite you. Using this man's logic, when someone dies of a cocaine overdose at school, we should make cocaine more readily available so they won't be dying alone.

the NRA may be too strong right now – for anything to get thru – as far as any type of gun law goes – but, I'd say – if I were to give a guess – by the time 2020 rolls around, this country will not only be more diverse, but by that time, I'm sure people will end up changing their mind about gun control laws, by then. It's sort of like : out with the "old" and "In" with the new, and by that, I mean, the Younger people will have more decision making by then, and the "old" ways of 2nd amendment thing, like it's meant ( like it was when our founding fathers meant it ) I mean, they weren't talking about walking around with RPG's and Cannons – or magazines with 20 / 30 / 50 / or 100 round clips, y'know. BUT, That's what you have, when the Gun Lobby is that powerful. So, IF I was Obama, I wouldn't do a thing about it, since the Gun Lobby is as strong as it is today. Wait til around 2020 or even 2022 – Laws will end up changing a little, by then.
What if the NRA musters it's five million members to march on D.C.? We could be free by next year.
