Clinton's Benghazi testimony set for next week in Senate

(CNN) - Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will testify on last year's U.S Consulate attack in Libya before the Senate Foreign Relations committee on January 23, the same day she'll appear before the House Foreign Affairs Committee, the Senate committee announced Thursday.

Presided by Sen. Robert Menendez, D-New Jersey, the hearing will start at 9 a.m. ET.

Clinton was scheduled to appear on Capitol Hill in December but postponed her testimony while being treated for illness, a concussion and a blood clot near her brain. The country's top diplomat returned to work last week.

Four State Department officials were disciplined last month after an independent review of the September 11, 2012 attack revealed "systemic failures and leadership and management deficiencies" at the State Department. The violence left four Americans dead, including the U.S. ambassador.

After the report, one official resigned, while three others were placed on administrative leave and relieved of their duties, said State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland.

Clinton likely will face questions about the State Department's handling of security for diplomatic personnel.

The committee last held a hearing about the attack on December 20, with Deputy Secretary of State Thomas Nides and Deputy Secretary of State William Burns.

Her testimony will not mean anything unless she tells who gave the STAND DOWN ORDER. I hope that question is the center of the investigation. We need leaders and not politicians where these decisions are made. Benghazi was the 3:00 a.m. phone call.

The hearing will go swimmingly until the factis revealled that the Republicans in Congress cut the State Department's security funding. At that point they will fold their tent and slither away and the whole mess will get dropped.
amf140-There was no "stand down" order- that is a fantasy of Fox News.

The sad thing is, NOTHING short of Hilary saying President Obama either single handedly went to Benghazi himself and shot those people, or he told her to leave them there with no help, will satisfy these people. This is a witch hunt plain and simple. They are so angry that the American people elected and then reelected President Obama. Sadly, this is the way things are going to go for the next 4 years. They will not work with President Obama and will continue to obstruct everything he attempts to do. I have never seen such a pathetic group of people in my life.

This isn't a Republican/Democrat issue. These four Americans were serving the entire country, and were brutally murdered. All citizens should want to know the truth, not only for those men and their families, but for our national security as a whole. Clinton definitely should have spoken up sooner, and we know Pres. Obama didn't want to taint his campaign – which means he put himself before the country and it's national security. How can anyone think that is good leadership?

Clinton's testimony about Benghazi will only give Republicans another chance to make themselves look bad. They have been forced to wait, which has only made them angry. People always make bad decisions when they're angry.

It will always be a defining moment when Pres. Obama flew to Las Vegas and accepted applause from a campaign rally at the exact same time our embassy was being burned down in Benghazi and four brave Americans were being murdered.

Freedom, what truth don't you already have? What exactly at this point do you think Clinton will say?

This has ceased being about the truth long ago and became a political issue. Just as folks like you swear this had something to do with Obama's campaign, those of us were wondering what the rush to judgement republicans had in their many accusations. And their rush to get the hearings in before the election. Especially when they were technically not in session. Of all the legislation they had to debate over, this hearing was the single most important thing on republicans' minds. Political reasons, maybe?

What kind of leadership is it that says they want to spend more money on the military, cuts the funding for security at Benghazi, only to turn around and try to blame the White House. Nothing more than GOP and FOX leadership. Have never seen such hatred for a President in my life. By the way, I am an independent for dam good reasons. Sick of both sides, but especially the GOP.

The Republicans had their fun making all sorts of wild accusations prior to the election (without the benefit of any factual information) and then claiming Hillary was faking an injury to avoid appearing before them (must have missed their apology for that). Now they will get what they've been asking for.......a face to face confrontation with Hillary. I predict that Hillary will make them look very foolish in short order. Afraid to appear? Not hardly.....I think she has been salivating at the prospect of setting the record straight and making fools of the Republicans in the process.

to California Gary: Hilary salivating at the prospect? Really? she has done everything possible to delay her testifying. she went on some trip that was not urgent, then had a cold...really? the world does not stop because you have a cold. Then the blood clot parents have both had that...they treat you with coumadin, and out you go. She has delayed this so she can practice and practice what her story will be....remember, lying is something the Clintons are both experts at (remember Vince Foster??). She will be like the rest of theis administration, and avoid the truth at all costs. The truth will either make her look horribly bad as the leader, or her boss.....she should have testified within days...not 4 months later. if there was nothign to hide, they all would have been GLAD to set the record straight..instead, they are wasting a lot of time trying to get theri stories straight. SAD for America.

freedom- And what should Obama have done? He aknowledged 2 days after the event it was an act of terrorism, and vowed the guilty would be brought to justice-and at least one person has been held in the attack. Or, is it that you are still listening to the Right-wing media- remeber how that blew up in Mr. Romney's face in the second debate?

Seriously- are you people going to go nuts every single time an American dies abroad? Do you have any idea how frequently onle of our diplomats is attacked? It is tragic, yes, but is the cost of being present in every single nation around the world.

@karen.......should have testified within days? You mean testify before the investigations have run their course and all the facts are known? What purpose would that serve? An event like this, especially one that occurs in a third world country, is not something that can be wrapped up in a nice neat little package in a matter of days. We still don't know all of the facts about things that have taken place right here in our country years ago. I'm still waiting to learn all the facts surrounding the Marine deaths in Lebonon in the 80's and waiting to see who will be held accountable for that. But you expect an event in Libya to be investigated, understood thoroughly, and scalps hanged from the nearest pole all in a matter of days.......get real.

wwf: What kind of leadership is it that says they want to spend more money on the military

The Military cut $300,000,000,000.000 from its budget. How is that spending more? By the way, if sequestration happens, you're going to wish the government spent more on the military.

Just wait for the GOP/Teartolls to start floating trial balloon talking points trying to turn this Algeria hostage situation into the same kind of conspiracy-laden accusation circus. It's coming.

To all you republican trolls out there its just another Darrell Issa led political witch hunt like his failed Fast,Furious crusade to rid the Capital of Eric Holder costing millions of our tax payers dollars over one border patrol agent, stupid ha!!..Now as most of you ignorent ,illiterate republicans know Hillary is a threat in 2016 as a potential presidencial candidate that would clobber any republican you can come up with which is few and far between ,you come up with this witch hunt to kill her credibility..But remember people your memory doesn't last long as what happened in "83 with Reagans two embassy bombings and military base which killed over 300 people while he was president and as usual republicans never did anything about it did they..Partisan and hypocrites as well a deadly combo that republicans like to run on don't they but it'll all come down at midterms so enjoy while you can because times a fleeing!!!

Wow Karen ! I think you need some treatment for your paranoia. I sure hope you never fall down, get a concussion and then develop blood clots that could kill you. You might look at things a little differently if that happened. I am a nurse and Hillary had the proper treatment, not what a looney like you would have prescribed, but then, what do the professionals know when idiots like you want to prescribe. Get a life !

I expect clinton to back pedal, with exuctive privalege or have a memory lapse due to her fall. I will be surprised if she comes clean, but I sure hope she does. America has a right to know who was responsible for not protecting our people in doing their Government job in a foriegn country. Obama blowd up daily, the sandy hook tragedy about Murder, But he is on the side line in the murder of our Ambassador.
It show his interest, is about control of citizens & taking their freedoms and liberties down to new low levels.
