Update: Inaugural official says Beyoncé ‘did not sing live’
Washington (CNN) - An inaugural official who asked not to be identified told CNN Wednesday that pop star Beyoncé lip-synced her performance on Inauguration Day.
"She did not sing live," the official told CNN. A pre-recording of the artist's rendition of the National Anthem was played instead. What was heard by spectators and viewers was the sound of that recording, according to the official.
The official said Beyoncé made the decision herself the night before Inauguration Day.
Beyoncé arrived so late Sunday night she did not have time to rehearse with the U.S. Marine Band, which was asked to accompany the pop star's performance, according to the inauguration official.
"Because she didn't have time to rehearse with the Marine Band, she decided to use her recording with the Marine Band," the official added. "It was all Beyoncé."
The official was somewhat puzzled by Beyoncé's decision, noting when she made the pre-recording, "she was spot on."
She recorded her part separately from the band and her rendition was married with the band's music, the official said.
The taped performance should take nothing away from her skills as a live artist, the official said. "She's actually a very good live singer," the official added.
CNN has still not received comment from Beyoncé.

How unfair to the other singers who sang on that cold day!! No one said it's not Beyonce's voice, we only say either all invited singers should have pre-recorded their songs or they all should have sung live.

Pretty lame decision. She arrived so late (why?) that she made the decision the night before? You're a professional performer....you'd never, ever lip sync a typical concert. Why now? Just weak, lame, and senseless.
If the organizers wanted a studio recording, why was she even invited to the ceremony?
It would have been more honest to let us hear her voice recording with come image collage, some videoclips or something else of the sort, which would not have been the equivalent of a lie.
Yes she did, and it sounded great. Pearlman and YoYo Ma did the same thing four years ago and it was great, too.I couldn't imagine trying to perform that beautiful duet under such harsh weather conditions. Marine Band was fantastic as was the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir and the other artists. Report on something with substance – do you think this was the first time in the history of public performance that something was pre-recorded? Visit a studio sometime, you'll be amazed at what can be done.
And she copied Angrlina Jolies' style. Exactly the same combo black and emerald green jewellery that Angelina wore to the Oscars.

Oh Whatever, it wasn't great anyway, and why did she have the recording with her. its clear this was planned ahead of time. And why are people pretending that she is such a great singer. Its easier to hide behind a band. She's not a singer, she is an entertainer. I don't know any music in which she is actually singing. Her songs are pop which are mainly talking not singing. And please don't say halo, because anyone can sing that! This is exactly what happens when celebrities are overexposed and trying to stay relevant.

What difference does it make?
It's not that unusual for singers to lip-sync live performances.
Only the STAR can get away with cheating and still able to earned big money and fame. I say this STAR is lucky to have fans and worshipers as smart as some mentally challenged being in our society.
Regardless whether it was pre-recorded or not, it was still her voice and her rendition of the national anthem. Get over it and stop hating. Find something more important to report.
