Update: Inaugural official says Beyoncé ‘did not sing live’
Washington (CNN) - An inaugural official who asked not to be identified told CNN Wednesday that pop star Beyoncé lip-synced her performance on Inauguration Day.
"She did not sing live," the official told CNN. A pre-recording of the artist's rendition of the National Anthem was played instead. What was heard by spectators and viewers was the sound of that recording, according to the official.
The official said Beyoncé made the decision herself the night before Inauguration Day.
Beyoncé arrived so late Sunday night she did not have time to rehearse with the U.S. Marine Band, which was asked to accompany the pop star's performance, according to the inauguration official.
"Because she didn't have time to rehearse with the Marine Band, she decided to use her recording with the Marine Band," the official added. "It was all Beyoncé."
The official was somewhat puzzled by Beyoncé's decision, noting when she made the pre-recording, "she was spot on."
She recorded her part separately from the band and her rendition was married with the band's music, the official said.
The taped performance should take nothing away from her skills as a live artist, the official said. "She's actually a very good live singer," the official added.
CNN has still not received comment from Beyoncé.

i care that these overpaid performers dont perform. this is so disrespectful to our president, his wife and to let the presidents children think this is ok is outrageous. cheating is cheating whether it be in the classroom, the store or on stage. when you are rich you can do anything and tell the world screw you. haven't hear from her?...and you wont she is far too above it.

What is more distrubing is the Marine band faking it. This is what happens when you hire people to pretend to be Marines. They lack integrity.

Dan...yes we do have time to talk about this. Normally I would say no, but since the people don't care that secretary of state Clinton and the president lied about Benghazi we might as well talk about this. Like the other "rock stars", seems people are also willing to give this rock star a pass even though she has been exposed for the no-talent poser that she is. Seems like when it comes to music or politics the public has been dumbed down.
How about this, instead of going to work today why don't you put a cardboard cutout of yourself at your desk and see how well that goes over. What's the difference, it looks like you're there and we all know you could do the job if you really wanted to. No different than what Beyonce did.
Only because it's Beyonce is it OK? No one else can lip sync without public backlash, what makes her special? I personally hate the way she sings, I like words with one syllable to stay one syllable. There were a couple of words that had about 20 syllables when she was done with them! So carry on lip syncher, carry on! Kudos to Kelly C. for giving a live performance! I was wondering why the band seemed to drown her out and Beyonce was so clear! All questions answered.
It's only news because those in power attempted to crush the grunt who pointed it out. Classic "might is right" mentality and response when those with power and authority got caught in a lie–and then tried to cover it up. They never learn.
A tempest in a teapot. All those who fault her should try singing the Star Spangled Banner outside on a cold day before a million people without previousl rehearsal with her accompaniment. Most of us have difficulty singing it anywhere as it is. And if she had tried to do it and was not perfect, everyone would be complaining about that!
She should have to pay back any appearance/performance fees paid by the American taxpayers. This is unacceptable. An honest days pay for an honest days work. These artists are all overpaid in the first place and then to lip synch? Come on, Beyonce. Get real!!
No. She should get no free pass on this. You think I'd get paid for services not perform. I think not. Neither should she.

This is not really that big of a deal, she fits right in with the mantra of this administration. The BHO can't talk with out a teleprompter. Beyonce arrived late and didn't practice... That was her excuse. She must have been real honored to be able to sing, well I mean fake sing at this charade... and what about those 1.8 Million dollar earrings? How did one of those evil rich people get invited??? Oh that's right your only evil rich if you don't follow the party line. Hypocritical at best but then again to a Liberal there is only one side of a story anyway.
Give me a break... Who cares.. we know she is an awesome singer.. so why should this be an issue?
