Palin speaks out after leaving Fox

(CNN) - One day after Fox News confirmed that it and Sarah Palin had parted ways, the former Alaska governor spoke out Saturday on why she decided to leave her gig as a paid contributor.

In an interview with the conservative news outlet Breitbart, Palin said she wants to share her values "more broadly" rather than "preach to the choir."

“The message of liberty and true hope must be understood by a larger audience," she said.

Palin's contract ended at the end of 2012, but a source close to Palin told CNN that the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee turned down a recent offer to renew it.

Palin said the 2014 mid-term elections will be "imperative" and advocated for who she described as anti-establishment conservatives.

"It’s going to be like 2010, but this time around, we need to shake up the GOP machine that tries to orchestrate away too much of the will of constitutional conservatives who don’t give a hoot how they do it in D.C.," she said.

Palin was not specific about her long-term plans, saying "the door is wide open." The three-question interview was published by Stephen K. Bannon, who directed a documentary about Palin called, "The Undefeated."

The Republican National Committee gathered last week for its winter meeting, where several GOP leaders argued the party needed to make serious changes in messaging and outreach to become more inclusive. Last year's presidential election results show that President Barack Obama overwhelmingly won African Americans, Asians and Latinos.

Palin, however, said some in the party are being "skittish" because of the election results.

"They shouldn’t be. Conservatism didn’t lose. A moderate Republican candidate lost after he was perceived to alienate working class Reagan Democrat and independent voters who didn’t turn out for him as much as they did for the McCain/Palin ticket in 2008," she said, adding the election was “defined by a biased media plus millions of voters who sat it out in disgust.”

Asked for her reaction to the idea that she and the tea party no longer hold as much sway, Palin said the fight hasn't even begun.

"I was raised to never retreat and to pick battles wisely, and all in due season," she said. "When it comes to defending our republic, we haven’t begun to fight! But we delight in those who underestimate us."

- CNN’s Ashley Killough, Gregory Wallace and Peter Hamby contributed to this report.

"I was raised to never retreat" Really?! QUITTER! The second you faced ANYTHING other that fawning support from the people of Alaska you QUIT! You did not stand up. You did not fight. You just ran away. You gave up. You retreated. And now that you no longer enjoy fawning support from the most Tea Party friendly network in the world, you quit AGAIN. "Never retreat"? All you DO is retreat. And what is probably worse, for you, is that with each passing day more people simply do not care what you do or say.

Hopefully her upcoming spread in Playboy was a conflict of interest.

The faster the GOP can get rid of its circus characters and recruit some people into the party that have an education and a brain in their heads, the faster this country will have a worthy opposition. The current crop of idiots however is not helping the cause at all, and Fox is probably one of the biggest anchors around the neck of the GOP – it's editors and the ridiculously blatant bias have navigated the network into irrelevant oblivion. Few in this country with a brain in their head consider the network at best laughable.

She is so delusional. What little audience she had left now will have to scour the internet to read her ramblings

CNN is requesting a courteous discussion, but this worldclass idiot deserves the same lack of courtesy that's she's puked all over the "Liberal Media" – face it, Mama Nutjob, you were fired because even Republicans find you revolting and a waste of time – have a nice time running for dog catcher in Anchorage, sweetie!

She's an also-ran. Does she really believe what she's saying? Get real. Conservatism is still popular but it LOST in the last election. Wake up and smell the coffee, sweetheart.

SPIn, Spin, SPin. "I was raised to never retreat", like in the governorship of Alaska? Only Ms Palin could criticize someone for using a teleprompter then use notes written on her hand during an interview. She's just lookin for significance and your contributions to her 2016 campaign.

In a strange way I wish Palin did get the attention she seeks, and people could once again hear just how poorly she understands the consitution and how she is really clueless when it comes to world affairs. The reason FOX didn't want her on the air is because of the negative responses she gets from their viewers. Palin represented the senators who said that women must enjoy getting raped or they wouldn't get pregnant... those were her picks to lead the way. She put out ads that had targets on certain candidates and then backed away when one of those candidates actually got shot. She is a walking wrecking machine, he did it to McCain and then has kept moving around causing more harm to the republican party.

A "paid contributor" sounds like a very pretentious job title for Sarah Palin. She seems more like a professional Wal-Mart shopper to me.

She turned down the Fox "offer" because it was for peanuts. A small fraction of her previous contract. Even Fox execs know her 15 minutes are up.

Her twisted ego won't let her accept the reality that she is no longer popular, and that her ever increasing flubs on statements are setting back the party that once embraced her.

Two words that make Democrats snicker and Republicans cringe....Sarah Palin. But I'm sure the conservative and tea party sheep that watch FauxNews will miss her immensely.
