(CNN) - As if the upcoming Senate race in New Jersey couldn't get more interesting, Fox News host Geraldo Rivera said Thursday he is "truly contemplating" throwing his hat in the ring for the 2014 election.
"I mention this only briefly...fasten your seatbelt," he said on his radio program. "I am and have been in touch with some people in the Republican Party in New Jersey. I am truly contemplating running for Senate against Frank Lautenberg or Cory Booker in New Jersey."

Johnson announced Thursday that he's leaving journalism to work as a senior adviser for Kerry when the senator takes on his job as U.S. Secretary of State once his resignation takes effect Friday.

Reid has found himself in a delicate position as he tries to navigate the desires of many members of his pro-gun rights Nevada constituency and the White House and members of his caucus' intensified push over gun control. Washington (CNN) – The council of economists, executives and labor leaders created to advise President Barack Obama on spurring job creation will officially cease to exist this week, the White House announced Thursday.
The Council on Jobs and Competitiveness was created in January 2011 by executive order, and its charter mandated that it would expire after two years. A White House official said Thursday that the council's charter would not be renewed.

Washington (CNN) – Sen. John McCain fired away at Cabinet nominee Chuck Hagel during his confirmation hearing Thursday on Capitol Hill, repeatedly interrupting his old friend and accusing him of refusing to answer direct questions.
The sharp exchange marked a years-long falling out between two long-time friends and colleagues. Thirteen years ago, McCain, then a presidential candidate, named Chuck Hagel as a man he'd like to see run the Defense Department.
