Arizona governor on ICE release: 'Outrageous' and 'appalling'
(CNN) - Two outspoken Arizona voices against illegal immigration blasted federal authorities' recent release of hundreds of undocumented immigrants because of the impending federal spending cuts.
Gov. Jan Brewer and Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu said in separate interviews on CNN's "The Situation Room" that the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency did not notify their offices when it moved some detainees out of detention and into less expensive supervised release programs.

King blasts Rubio for fundraising in New York
(CNN) - New York has long been seen as something like a political ATM, one of several states ripe with cash for candidates who visit, collect checks and return to their districts or states to campaign.
Rep. Peter King, a New York Republican, again blasted a member of his party who tapped the New York fundraising well but cast a vote against federal relief funds for the victims of Superstorm Sandy. This time, the candidate in his sights was Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, a potential 2016 presidential candidate.

Top Republican criticizes use of FBI planes
Washington (CNN) - A top congressional Republican complained Thursday that FBI jets are being used too much on travel for the FBI Director and Attorney General and not enough for FBI missions.
Senator Charles Grassley of Iowa expressed particular concern about the use of two Gulfstream V planes. "These luxury jets were supposedly needed for counterterrorism, but it turns out that they were used almost two-thirds of the time for jet-setting executive travel instead," Grassley said.

Obama urges court to overturn California same-sex marriage ban
Washington (CNN) - The Obama administration on Thursday formally expressed its support of same-sex marriage in California, setting up a high stakes political and constitutional showdown at the U.S. Supreme Court over a fast-evolving and contentious issue.
In a broadly worded legal brief that senior government sources say had President Barack Obama's personal input and blessing, the Justice Department asserted gay and lesbian couples in the nation's largest state have the same "equal protection" right to wed and that voters there were not empowered to ban it.

Senate rejects two proposals to avert forced spending cuts
(CNN) - Two partisan-backed bills to avert the forced federal spending cuts failed as expected in the Senate on Thursday afternoon. Procedural votes on the plans fell short of the 60 votes required for either to move forward.
The Senate is now expected to adjourn for the weekend without a deal to avert the cuts, known in Washington as the sequester. The cuts are set to take effect Friday unless Congress and the President reach a deal.
