Pentagon braces for budget cut hardship

Washington (CNNMoney) - With no lifelines in sight, the Defense Department has started preparing for the reality of 9.4% budget cuts kicking in next month by laying off up to 46,000 temporary workers.

And the Pentagon says that's just the beginning.

The Department of Defense represents around 50% of the federal budget, and spends more than the next 10 largest defense budgets world-wide. I am pretty certain that with the massive cost of Iraq behind us and Afghanistan ending next year that there ought to be plenty of savings to be had.

I'll be so glad when these "tank war political zealots" like John McCain are out of the Senate, out of the House, and out of DC politics all together. They've all been watching to many documentaries on the Military Channel showing battle simulations and historic battles. Mordern warfare isn't fought they way they think it is anymore. There will be no more D-Day style invasions in modern warfare. Yes, we need tanks and other support hardware. Their visions of wars, battles and victories are outdated and therefore delusional.
