Arkansas to allow concealed guns in churches
(CNN) - The Arkansas House of Representatives has overwhelmingly passed a measure that would allow concealed guns to be carried in churches and houses of worship, and the governor's office says it plans to sign the bill.
The measure, which passed 85-8 on Monday, gives houses of worship the option of allowing concealed weapons.

Obama to make first trip to Israel as president
(CNN) - President Barack Obama recently discussed an upcoming spring visit to Israel with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney confirmed Tuesday in the daily press briefing.
While overseas, Obama will also visit the West Bank and Jordan "to continue his close work with Palestinian Authority officials and Jordanian officials," Carney added.

Obama calls for short-term fix to imminent spending cuts
Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama called Tuesday for a short-term agreement to put off deep cuts to government spending, including the military, set to take effect next month.
Obama made his pitch in a statement to reporters at the White House, urging Congress to pass a measure that would put off imminent spending cuts - known as sequestration - that were part of a 2011 debt ceiling deal.

Kasich embrace of Obamacare program angers some conservatives
(CNN) – By accepting the provision included in President Barack Obama's health care law expanding federal Medicaid funding, Ohio Gov. John Kasich joined four fellow Republican governors in welcoming part of a program their party has campaigned vehemently against.
He also drew the ire of some Republican activists, who had viewed him as a model of small government conservatism and a potential candidate for the 2016 presidential nomination.

Mass. GOP may have fielded first candidate for special Senate race
(CNN) - A Massachusetts Republican appears to be going where four other party members decided not go.
GOP State Rep. Dan Winslow announced Tuesday that he's exploring a bid to run in a June special election to fill the final eighteen months of the term of longtime Democratic Sen. John Kerry, who stepped down from the Senate Friday to succeed Hillary Clinton as U.S. secretary of state.

Progressive group hits McConnell on guns
(CNN) – A group whose aim is to elect progressive Democrats to Congress released an ad Tuesday hitting Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell for opposing gun control legislation while receiving campaign donations from gun manufacturers.
The spot, from the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, will run on broadcast and cable television in McConnell's home state, as well as in Washington, D.C., including on CNN. The group said they would spend $27,000 initially to air the ad for one week.

Cantor says background checks a possibility
Washington (CNN) – The number two House Republican said Tuesday that he supports beefed up background checks for gun sales, an indication of where potential gun control legislation could be headed on Capitol Hill.
Rep. Eric Cantor, the House majority leader, told CNN Chief Congressional Correspondent Dana Bash that a system put in place in his home state of Virginia following the 2007 massacre at Virginia Tech could be a model for a nationwide measure.
