Palin urges Obama to express condolences for slain ex-Navy SEAL

(CNN) - Sarah Palin said she hopes President Barack Obama "pays his respects" to the slain former Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, who was killed at a shooting range by a fellow veteran on February 2.

In Dallas for the funeral, the former Alaska governor said she and her husband "find it sad to see that flags aren't flying at half staff for this American hero."

"We're surrounded today by American patriots here in Texas – by Chris' fellow veterans and active duty warriors," she wrote on Facebook Monday morning. "In honor of them, I hope our commander in chief pays his respects in some gesture of condolence for their comrade in arms who sacrificed so much to keep him and all of us safe."

Kyle, who was 38, served four combat tours in Iraq and received two Silver Stars, among other commendations. He left the Navy in 2009. He was most known for declaring himself the "most lethal sniper in U.S. history" with more than 150 sniper killings in Iraq, which he described as a record for any American.

"We may never know to what extent Chris kept us free or how many lives he saved by his brave actions in the line of fire. But his fellow warriors know how important he was," Palin wrote.

Shortly after his death, Palin wrote on Facebook that she had lost a friend. She explained that she and her husband, Todd, first met Kyle in Pella, Iowa, when he helped out with security for the premiere of "The Undefeated," a documentary about Palin that debuted in June 2011.

"Later we became friends with Chris when he was on 'Stars Earn Stripes' with Todd," she said, referring to the NBC reality show in which competitors took on missions based on military exercises.

"Chris was a wonderful man, a good friend, and a true American hero who loved our country and served honorably," she continued. "He was loved and admired by so many, and he will never be forgotten."

Is Sarah aware that he died as the victim of a horrendous violent crime, as thousands of Americans are each year, and not while actively serving? A tragedy, yes indeed. Also a tragedy are the other 1,727 (non-sniper) Americans killed by guns since the Newtown shooting on December 14. That bothers me more...

So this veteran is more important than any other veteran to Sarah? Why is that?

    hey Ed1

You're correct, I stated that incorrectly, my bad. I agree with the MJ thing. What I was saying is, if we're going to fly the flag at half staff/half mask for one fallen soldier, we need to do it for all of them. Not just pick and choose which ones we're going to do it for, just because CNN or someone decided to run an article about this one getting killed at a shooting range. I'm thinking you misunderstood what I was trying to say.

Thanks for reminding us how you will attach your name to ANYTHING to get yourself in the news, Sarah. We almost, as a nation, forgot how much of a publicity hoo-ah you are.

So, having said he is a hero as all who serve are, then we should be flying our flag at half staff everyday until we are out of all our conflicts. Maybe that would remind us of where we are and who is dying on a daily basis! Sarah, why don't you speak up for the other ones, our brothers and sisters who's names are not mentioned except by the familys who have lost them? You only toot name recognition?

Really Palin...your hunger for attention is staggering. And I would add using the death of your "friends " death as a means of getting that attention is about as low as it gets.
It really is amazing how you and your family use other people including your kids, your kids using their kids, anything...just to get yourselves attention. You Palin women really have deep seeded issues.

Why would you report on anything Palin says? So Obama is supposed to publically mourn the SEAL, what about the woman killed in Turkey, or the people just shot yesterday, or the two people killed last week, what about the soldiers killed today? Shutup Palin.

Its a tragedy that this guy died, but that's what is wrong with those who hang out at gun ranges. One or more persons who shoots at gun ranges is a little bit off. As for Palin, she's had her 15 minutes of fame, and she's really clueless about Washington, D.C. Any criticism of Obama by her shows how bitter she is, and also shows she will do anything to stay in the spotlight. Why any media outlet would even take up her story/comments is questionable.

If we honored the death of a veteran with flying the flag at half staff, it would be at half staff every day.
