Palin urges Obama to express condolences for slain ex-Navy SEAL

(CNN) - Sarah Palin said she hopes President Barack Obama "pays his respects" to the slain former Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, who was killed at a shooting range by a fellow veteran on February 2.

In Dallas for the funeral, the former Alaska governor said she and her husband "find it sad to see that flags aren't flying at half staff for this American hero."

"We're surrounded today by American patriots here in Texas – by Chris' fellow veterans and active duty warriors," she wrote on Facebook Monday morning. "In honor of them, I hope our commander in chief pays his respects in some gesture of condolence for their comrade in arms who sacrificed so much to keep him and all of us safe."

Kyle, who was 38, served four combat tours in Iraq and received two Silver Stars, among other commendations. He left the Navy in 2009. He was most known for declaring himself the "most lethal sniper in U.S. history" with more than 150 sniper killings in Iraq, which he described as a record for any American.

"We may never know to what extent Chris kept us free or how many lives he saved by his brave actions in the line of fire. But his fellow warriors know how important he was," Palin wrote.

Shortly after his death, Palin wrote on Facebook that she had lost a friend. She explained that she and her husband, Todd, first met Kyle in Pella, Iowa, when he helped out with security for the premiere of "The Undefeated," a documentary about Palin that debuted in June 2011.

"Later we became friends with Chris when he was on 'Stars Earn Stripes' with Todd," she said, referring to the NBC reality show in which competitors took on missions based on military exercises.

"Chris was a wonderful man, a good friend, and a true American hero who loved our country and served honorably," she continued. "He was loved and admired by so many, and he will never be forgotten."

Don't get me wrong on this statement: If we're going to raise the flag to half staff for this hero, then in my opinion, it needs to be there for EVERY soldier that falls. I'm not saying this soldier isn't worthy, I'm saying ALL of them are worthy of that recognition. We can't just pick and choose which ones to honor this way.

On Palin, she's attractive, but, I sure wish she'd shut up and just look pretty.

I sure do wish that Palin and her whole family would leave us alone. I am very sad that the Navy Seal was killed. Why does the flag need to fly at Half Mast for him and not all the rest of the Seals that have died and all the other soldiers that have died.

By all accounts Obama was MIA during Benghazi. Why that isn't an impeachable offense and front page of every publication escapes me. It flies in the face of his oath of office – if I was serving as an ambassador or in the military the message I would take from this is "watch your own back because Obama won't". If Bush had done something similar he would have been excoriated by the media for months on end.

And to think these men withheld this information from the public during the election? The words "criminal" and "treasonous" comes to mind.

    It's all about Sarah.

She manages to cause division even in the most mournful occasion.

Sarah, learn to shut your mouth. You have nothing of value to say.

It is not all about you.

Oh My, Palin again. Do we always have to have Palin pass her blessing on every issue??? Really, Sick guy, doing therapy with a gun. Sick guy Kills retired sniper while doing therapy. Sniper was aware shooter was not mentally OK, but gave him a loaded gun anyway?? Was Sniper a trained mental heath provider??? Pretty sure he was not. It appears to me the Retired sniper, made a very bad decision, and as a result was killed. I am very sad that he was killed. I am frustrated because it was so very avoidable. I am sad that the shooter did not get the mental health care he needed and this whole loss could have been avoided. As a hunter and sportsman this sort of behavior is beyond my comprehension. If Palin wanted to really help, how about advocating getting our servicemen and women the health care they need. There was a young Veteran here in Minnesota, that had his leg blown off and needed a prosthetic, The VA declined to get him one. Friends and Family were raising money to buy him one, until a State Senator found out about it. This woman was outraged, obviously angry. This young man got his leg prosthetic, paid for by the VA as a result of the senators involvement. It really should not have taken a Senator to get this done. If Obama had flown the flag at half mast, Palin would have criticized that too. It seems to me Palin elevates her own self worth, by diminishing others. Perhaps there is some good in sarah palin, but mostly all I see in her behavior is that of a very negative ,devise, and self serving woman. I have listened and read her positions for far longer than I have wanted too. Like many, I just want her to go away.

What should be discussed here is the poor quality of care, specifically mental health care, which is being made available to returning combat veterans- the lack of which is something ALL members of Congress (BOTH Parties) should feel nothing but a deep amount of Shame. As far as Sarah Palin, like many demagogues, desperately trying to stay relevant as their 15 minutes of fame draws to a close, I'm sure if the President had elected to fly the Flag at half-staff (something there is simply no precedent for doing) she would scream about the polarization of this tragedy. People see her for what she is, an amateurish opportunist, with neither the depth to truly understand what she rants about, nor the skills to provide workable solutions to even the most basic governmental or societal needs. She's good only for self-aggrandizement and hyperbolic bombast, which do nothing to strengthen our union or improve the quality of life here in America. In short she shouldn’t go away angry. She should simply go away.

Despite his service to his country, this is not a death worthy of flying flags at half staff.
Also, her 15 minutes ended a long time ago.

Why can't she just shut up and go away? As tragic as it is, does anyone think that Chris Kyle is the first American hero to have died or been killed? Suicides among the military are at an all-time high. Many oher veterans have been victims of shootings. Palin just wants to keep her name in the spotlight, so she will say or push anything that might get her some press, especially if she can find a way to somehow criticize Obama.

Palin should check Section 112, Title 38, of the United States Code before she opens her mouth.

Sarah Palin is a true patriot

And you begin your downward spiral with that comment. A "true patriot": how? Did she perform service on the battlefield, create a vaccine, design and build a structure used by millions every day? Nope. She was a small-town mayor who hired a lobbyist for funds that were never put to constructive use, quite the Alaska Gas Board, quit as governor after wrecking her party's national ticket, and completed the destruction of the GOP by pushing it so far to the Right it became anathema to anyone who was not white, male, old, and angry. She was even fired from FOX because even they realized she was an embarrassment. Now, she wants to piggyback onto a tragedy by demanding that the president express his condolences and order flags flown at half-staff in honor of an ex-serviceman who admitted killing as many people as Tim McVeigh. This is beyond ego, its psychotic.

I morn, I morn that I ever heard her name, I more that I ever heard her voice, and I more for the people who believe she has any idea what goes on in the world yet they will follow her to hell. Palin is part of the "lock n load" and kill'em all group. It's her loony bunch who loves kiling machines

Nice Sarah Palin. Use the death of an American soldier as an opportunity to take political cheap shots at the president.

I rarely say it's the media's fault. BUT IT IS THE MEDIA'S FAULT ANY OF THEM COVER ONE WORD SHE SAYS. All media should take an oath that they will not cover her regardless of what she might say. Even FOX News severed ties to the loon

How ironic that Sarah Palin must mention President Obama to hold any relevance? How annoying that the media keeps allowing her flickering light to last longer than 15 minutes. If we flew the flags at half-mast for every fallen hero, it would be an everyday thing. Why can this woman not use foresight and see how her comments lack intelligence?

The reason we keep hearing about this idiot woman is because the media just can't leave her out of the news. I said it after the election in 2008 – if the media would have just walked away and ignored her, she would have died fast and quiet. But the media just had to keep her in the news. She has nothing to contribute and never did. McCain only chose her because the Republican party needed to look like it valued women, which we all know is a complete myth. If the media would just stop giving her air time, we would all be happier and she would go away. PLEASE!
