Palin urges Obama to express condolences for slain ex-Navy SEAL

(CNN) - Sarah Palin said she hopes President Barack Obama "pays his respects" to the slain former Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, who was killed at a shooting range by a fellow veteran on February 2.

In Dallas for the funeral, the former Alaska governor said she and her husband "find it sad to see that flags aren't flying at half staff for this American hero."

"We're surrounded today by American patriots here in Texas – by Chris' fellow veterans and active duty warriors," she wrote on Facebook Monday morning. "In honor of them, I hope our commander in chief pays his respects in some gesture of condolence for their comrade in arms who sacrificed so much to keep him and all of us safe."

Kyle, who was 38, served four combat tours in Iraq and received two Silver Stars, among other commendations. He left the Navy in 2009. He was most known for declaring himself the "most lethal sniper in U.S. history" with more than 150 sniper killings in Iraq, which he described as a record for any American.

"We may never know to what extent Chris kept us free or how many lives he saved by his brave actions in the line of fire. But his fellow warriors know how important he was," Palin wrote.

Shortly after his death, Palin wrote on Facebook that she had lost a friend. She explained that she and her husband, Todd, first met Kyle in Pella, Iowa, when he helped out with security for the premiere of "The Undefeated," a documentary about Palin that debuted in June 2011.

"Later we became friends with Chris when he was on 'Stars Earn Stripes' with Todd," she said, referring to the NBC reality show in which competitors took on missions based on military exercises.

"Chris was a wonderful man, a good friend, and a true American hero who loved our country and served honorably," she continued. "He was loved and admired by so many, and he will never be forgotten."

When you you stupid people ever wake up.

By the way I didn't hear that our wonderful President was there to honor this HERO must not have been time for a photo op was anyone there from the White House doubt it rather go and promote gun control when the US don't even come up in the top 25 Countries of death by guns but the liberal press and the gun takers will not say anything about that they will just continue to lie about if you remove the guns the deaths will go down that has already been proven a lie in itself.

Wake up America before you it's to late and we will start looking just like Germany before WWII then it will be to late.

Please take a moment and thank whatever deity you believe in that this woman never became vice president. What a maroon.

I think that it's utterly reprehensible for Sarah Palin to exploit this tragedy for her own political/commercial reasons. If she really cared about this man, she would not seize upon his death as an opportunity to take another political swipe at the President and to get her name in the national media. If she was a decent human being she would have offered a statement of condolence and left it at that, and not used his funeral as a media/photo op and a chance to try to embarass Obama. This is a new low, even for her. She's not "Sarah Barracuda" – she's "Sarah Bottom-Feeder."

Of course Obama would never pay his respects. Obama doesn't really care for other people, unless there's something in it for him of course.

Sarah Palin would have made a MUCH better president than that lying con artist Obama.

Please know what you are all talking about before you speak: (See DOD Directive 1005.6). Kris Kyle was a hero. He did alot for his country and should be given respect and praise for it. Palin using him to score media coverage is the disgrace here. Plenty Teams members have died (though not in this tragic way) in the last decade. Does he deserve more respect than his other Team members? Sure, it could easily be argued that way. Does he meet the requirements specified in the DoD directive? No.

If you have never been in the military, please respect us and those that served. But do not claim you know what we would want. You don't know how we think. Does anyone really think someone who's greatest works might never be known, who's medals were presented at private ceremonies, someone who couldn't explain why he got the medals gives a flying .... if the flag is at half staff?

Leave it to Palin to turn a tragedy into a political statement.

If you're going to honor this fallen hero, then you must honor all fallen heroes. You can't lower the flag to half-staff every time a veteran dies. It would be lowered almost every day.

The least thing President Obama needs is a lesson on how to act from this ignorant loser. Go away media hog

Granted this guy was an ex Navy-Seal....granted Sarah Palin is climbing on the back of another dead American soldier to extend her 15secs of shame!!!

But shooting a gun at a gun range with a guy who is suffering from PTSD is not a very smart move...

Sorry, it's like we should be flying the flag at half staff for Adam Lanza's mom...I dont think so caribou barbie!!!

I'd rather see the flags half mast for the bus driver in Alabama than this man. He was a killer, and proud of it. Whether or not he felt he had just cause, what was heroic about what he did?

Is this all Sarah has to think about? I wish CNN would ignore this Teabooger has-been. She has lost any clout she might have once had and needs to just stay in Alaska, hunt her moose, make stew, clean her rifles, raise her family, keep her nails and hair pretty and shut up.

The whole world has forgotten whether Sarah Palin ever existed except the world of CNN. Why all this obsession? Has she bribed you to keep her in news all the time?

She got less than 200,000 votes to be governor of Alaska, then quit after 2 1/2 years. As Wasilla mayor she got less than 1000 votes.
    Palin's 15 minutes are over.

    Hey FABTEST,

The flag was flown at half staff for Micheal Jackson
I understand the Mayor of Jackson's hometown ordered the flags lowered to half-mast. I'm not certain if he has that authority but couldn't care less. It has nothing to do with this situation unless the moronic right-wing needs a new conspiracy.

The only urge I get when I see an old picture (cnn get with the times and show the "new" plastic god awful traitor that she and her husband are hiding behind that ugly hugs flag she wears – i thought the AK independence party was no more) of you is to throw up!!! I also thank the heavens that you will NEVER be more (or less) than what you are right now which is nothing.

    Ms. Palin,

Why don't you mourn first, instead of using another person's death for your own agenda.
You are really one horrible (sub-)human being.

Here is how clueless she is regarding flag protocol: October 20, 2010. In a video (at 1:30), Sarah Palin is seen signing a flag for a supporter. Flag Code: "The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature."
