Spending cuts to hurt homeland security

New York (CNNMoney) - The $85 billion in spending reductions looming over the federal government will cut into the nation's homeland security department and affect how it carries out vital missions, a top Obama administration official warned Wednesday.

"Sequestration would roll back border security, increase wait times at our nation's land ports of entry and airports, affect aviation and maritime safety and security, leave critical infrastructure vulnerable to attacks, hamper disaster response time ... and significantly scale back cyber security infrastructure protections," Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano wrote in a letter to lawmakers.

Homeland Security is beginning to sound like a standing army, so this might not be a bad thing.

Guess they will just have to make do...........now won't they? the Guy in the WH decides what gets money and what doesn't. Obviously he has his own priorities, that the rest of us would not agree with.

    Sod off, Janet.
    We do not need you.
Our United States Armed Forces are sufficient to defend this nation.
I'm fed up with your police state that is threatening national security for my grandchildren by officers that are intimidating, making fabricated arrests against innocent civilians just to fill up jails to bring heads in for municipal or county profits.

Go to a third world country if you must commit domestic terror against your own fellow civilians. Let us alone. Other than outright civil war – I do not think your officers could possibly do more to damage this country.

Doesn't matter, as long as the repubs can convince their minions that it's Obama's fault!

I"ll repeat something I have said before when Republicans say no more taxes. As far as I understand our language that means leave them alone but no they say Ok to tax reform... but they dont mean reform they mean tax reduction. Now like it or not initially probably 2 years that increases the budget deficit and debt. QED then you need much higher than $1.2bn in savings, and thy cant agree on that for the last 2+ years!!??
So my idea is stand them on thier heels cut corportae taxes over 3 years from 35 % to 28% in stages this is paid for by closing loopholes and taking away tax breaks. Its self funding per Bush II research. My idea is the Increased tax revenue over 3 years is spent on infrastructure and education/ research to stimulate the economy.
That stimulus and tax reduction helps gop small busineess owners and per GOP = creates jobs, increases consumer spending, and also note taxes state ( sales tax) and federal levels ( more income tax)= plus GDP growth, the natural effect of which is to reduce the budget deficit and debt need.
How deaf are Republicans when every economist tells them that pure spending cuts increase unemployment and damage the economy, and yet its the mantra they continue to put out.
Some spending cuts are needed like $250bn from defense ... GOP proposed that; and Obama said in SOTU he would match that but wanted a budget that included the Bowles simpson tax aspects almost as noted above.
The PS is the CBO says 2012/2013 budget deficit will be around $850bn. Face it GOP Obama's solutions are working. Get on board in the interests of the nation, and get the good Ole USA a 3% plus growth of GDP p.a. thats the biggest fixer of the debt crisis because that means lower unemployment is occurring. Less spending on unemployment benefits and food stamps

Actually Napolitano, since your department isnt enforcing federal laws on illegal immigation the reduced funding shouldnt change much at all.
